Reds are tough at home but Bailey can be hit or miss and the A's hit him pretty well. If he doesn't bring his best, I think the A's scrap out a low scoring win behind Colon who has bee much more consistent. Colon at plus money? That's worth a shot.

Like Oakland here. Bailey has for the past three years been a much better night pitcher than day. 2013 day splits = 4.43 1.36 .284 and for 2012 5.02 1.56 .318. Bailey is a flaky pitcher... mediocre since his July 2 no-hitter, though he twirled a tidy game @ San Diego his last outing.

Colon meanwhile seems completely oblivious to any external factors, including MLB drug investigations and Triple Whoppers with Cheese. Weather worth consideration here with 40% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.

A's bats have been cool but they'll bust out enough for a win as they did vs. Bailey in Oakland in late June.

Of course Vinnie, why wouldn't you? Assuming that you don't - by asking the question. That like asking people if they consider stats to be of any value when making a determination.

i lean Oakland.. i love Bartolo.

however many around here have predicted a regression for Bartolo.

I don't really see it. I think Bartolo is a hall of famer and getting better with age like fine wine.

The only thing is i dont know if i want to bet on this game b/c i'm at work and i don't want to be all stressed out checking scores and hitting the refresh button on espn gamecast every 5 seconds.

ya never know what your going to get with Homer Bailey.

and the reds put Frazier in the two whole, not sure i like that move

    my leans are

Tigers (Fister) over Indians (Salazar) - Gotta ride the red hot Tigers here. They are confident and clicking on all cylinders. Jimmy Leyland has this team locked in. Fister has given up only 1 run in his last 2 starts combined.

Dodgers (Nolasco) over Cardinals (Miller) - the reason i like the Dodgers is b/c this is an ESPN game and the underdog seems to always win these. I know it sounds crazy but the public will be all over the Cardinals and in these national tv games the dog seems to come out on top more often than not. Especially when the teams are closely matched.

A's (Colon) over Reds (Bailey) - Just a fan of Colon here and with the A's being an underdog i like it even better.

Braves (Medlen) over Nationals ( Zimmerman) - Zimmerman has been pitching like a bum lately. and The braves bats are on FIRE. The more you win , the easier it is to win. Good teams find a way to win and i'll take the better hitting team with the better bullpen. Medlen is probably good for 5-6 innings and should hold the Nationals to 3 runs or less.

If i'm Zimmerman this Braves line-up is not exactly who i want to be pitching to if i'm trying to regain my form.

Colon has a 2.97 ERA for day games and is 2.94 at night. While Bailey is 4.43 and is W2 and L6 in Day splits Also, while Colon has an excellent 2.46 at home his away ERA on slightly rises to and 2.54. This is the A's first time first trip to Great American Ball Park but it is the perfect park for them to break out of their hitting slump, in effort to grab a much needed win with their ace on the mound. Cincy is batting .220 vs. Colon, while the A's are batting .341 against Bailey. Seth Smith seems to do well against Bailey and leads the A's in avg against him at .429 with 6 hits, 3 HRs and 5 RBIs in only 14 ABs. and Smith is Batting 2nd in the lineup today behind Crisp who in his first and only at bat against Bailey hit a HR, 2RBI.

Gotta like the A's chances in this spot. It's A's or no play for me. I lean on the under but I could see the A's breaking out of the bats in this early game.

Your batting averages are far from accurate. The .220 vs Colon only consists of 2 hitters that are in today's lineup. Also the .341 vs Bailey rises to .434 when considering today's lineup. It further proves your point however.

Yeah it's tough with Oakland's offense lately. Last 5 games = 10 runs for Oak to Cincy's 20.

exactly.. the under doesnt look bad.. but i dont bet under or overs... if we think about it though.. oakland cant come out with 3 runs today? seeing as that would be enough since bartolo hasnt given up more than 2 runs in like what.. forever?

Yes. I am very familiar with the lineup. Only Choo and Phillips in the lineup have had any real success with Colon and with 21 ABs between the two of them only, Choo has 1HR and each of the two have 1RBI. While Smith, Moss, Donaldson, and Crisp combine 6 HRs and 13 RBIs on Bailey.
