I dont mean winning. Any pitcher can win with run support and a bit of luck. I mean his stats and numbers are they amazing?

No Locke doesn't have amazing "stuff". However, he pitches to the situation locates pitches very well within the strike zone. Does he walk batters, yes. But again that's due to him never giving him which is why he gets away with not having the best stuff.

"stuff" is not nearly as important as command, not even close

not walking guys, not dealing down the middle, keeping things on the paint, hitting corners, keeping ball down, much more important than movement or even velocity although usually reduction in velocity is a big negative indicator

When some fukkin book puts out a line on whether or not said fukkin guy has amazing stuff, I will give it some thought.

    For now.

    Fukk cares.

no he does not have amazing stuff

i'd say less than 15-20 starters in MLB have "amazing" stuff, and some of them suck at the moment.

he has command, he's been lucky, he is lefty, he has poise and a great catcher in Russel Martin, he has a really really good defense behind him,and he has average to above average stuff.

I see him as a 3.75 to 4.25 ERA kinda guy going forward

in the current Pirates rotation of

    Burnett
    Liriano
    Locke
    Morton
    Cole

Locke has the 5th best "stuff"

that being said, thus far his stats are very very good. But yeah I don't see him being lefty greg maddux lite, as he was touted to be while in the Braves organization.

Pirates control him for 4 more years I believe. He should give them 3.75 to 4.25 ERA with 1.3ish Whip for a good chunk of time for them, and that is more than enough considering the studs coming up in their system

Arch one of the only posters left at SBR that's worth a damn.

Instead I have to read Ice and Smoke's back and forth "analysis."

Phil Hughes went like 18-6 with a 4.4 ERA a couple years ago.
Does that mean he automatically has amazing stuff?

Records for one or even half a season mean shit in MLB.

Not sold on Locke after half a season. Not like he has dominating stuff out there.

Plus he's on a team who has just been on fire and will collapse in the 2nd half for sure.

GREAT team to fade after the break, like always.

An even better example would be King Felix with a record of 12-11 a few years ago.
He won the Cy Young that year.

UCLA Bruins punter Jeff Locke was highly decorated with awards and recognition through his collegiate career. Led the Pac-12 with 34 punts inside the 20-yard line and 21 punts inside the 10-yard line. Led nation with 68 touchbacks. Invited to Senior Bowl. Four-year starter. Excellent accuracy. Continued improvement each season. Averaged 44.23 yards per punt over career. Compact two-step release. Good distance and hang time on punts and kickoffs. Should challenge to be starting punter as a rookie.

This is a great example of how "stuff" plays out in the MLB. Charlie Morton is the 5 man in that rotation, and he's just waiting around for someone to take his spot. He has the best "stuff" out of any of those other guys.

Locke is -187 today against the Rockies...

Tulo and Cargo must be out or maybe this Maztek guy blows..

Never seen Locke favored by so much before!

Locke's peripherals are sound, though I would have guessed otherwise. 2.96 FIP (vs 2.89 ERA), .266 BABIP 67.6% LOB.

Also notable for today's contest are Locke's day / night splits.

    Career
    Day 3.87 1.15 .212
    Night 3.79 1.42 .267

ERA above is equal but big difference in WHIP and BAA.

And then in 3 day GS this year: 1.71 0.57 .134 -- wow. No matter, -180 is more juice that I'm willing to lay.
