Highest priced MLB game of 2013?

I noticed on the MLB betting board today that NYY were -235ish against the Lastros even with a mediocre pitcher in Petitte and the Tigers were -240ish against the Twinks today with Scherzer on the mound.

It got me thinking, what would be the absolute highest line this year in MLB between one team vs. another. So far, I've come up with this:

Brad Peacock (HOU) vs. Justin Verlander (DET) with the game in Detroit....I would probably say the Tigers might be something like -450

pettitte isnt mediocre .. he has had 1 bad game so far this year .. just happened to be vs houston .. guy will finish with a 3.3 era and have about 15 wins ... doubt thats mediocre for a 40 year old lefty pitcher in the american league

Back in the "old days" when Doc Gooden was @ his best and the Met's were hitting I saw run lines of 3-3.5.!! Think about that....unreal ...and many times they covered laying -3.5 runs.!!

reds were around -320 last year at home last year towards the end of the year with Cueto on the mound. Think it was against the astros but I'm not sure about that. Reds ended up losing.

I've seen some in the -300's...can't remember ever seeing -400. Usually it's when you have a spot starter from the pen or some AAAA pitcher on a bad team getting the nod on the road against a top 10 SP.

TX was an average of -400 vs O's in 2011 in a three game home series toward the end of that season. I remember this b/c GM1 was pitched by Cliff Lee the night after being traded from the Mariners. The game closed -450, and TX lost. TX was swept in that series also.

Mike Scott, Greg Maddux, Doc Gooden, Randy Johnson, Bob Welch, Roger Clemens, Nevertakesabathia.
All pitchers I remember -400 or right at it. I remember Maddux being -450 and losing.

I remember in maybe 2004/2005 or so when Randy Johnson was with the Diamondbacks, he was around -400 or so against the Brewers, who were a 100+ lost team back then, and of course what happens, the Brewers get like 7 runs in the first inning against him. I can't seem to find that game anywhere...maybe someone remembers it.

One time, Johan Santana was around -400 against the Nationals right after they moved from Montreal and of course he lost. Another time, Cliff Lee had just gotten traded from Seattle to Texas and was starting like the next day and was -400+ and he got smoked.

Dwight gooden was -400+ MANY times in his heydey He was 132-53 his first eight years. To put that in perspective if he was -249 every one of those games and you flat bet him you would have made a profit.

I was at that game. Lots of hype surrounding Cliff Lee, Rangers had won something like 18 of 20 and were at home, and Chris Tillman was making his MLB Debut for the Orioles who had just fired their manager I believe.

Cliff lee in his Texas debut v. Balty was -350ish..lost 6-1 I believe. And peacock v verlander in Detroit probably would be between 280-320

LOL I remember these days too though I rarely touched run lines. I lived in NY and back then bookmakers were tradition local guys and they HATED gooden. People would bail out on gooden every damn week. If not for drugs and lifestyle he would have been an alltimer. His average season was 16-6. He never lost 10 never won less then 15

The Cubs were a ridiculous underdog the the Red Sox a few years ago. I think it was like +400 and Boston -1.5 was ridiculously juiced.

Needless to say, Boston won like 9-3.

Highly doubt it. He is -260 tonight against a considerably better team in Minnesota with all-star caliber players (i.e. Joe Mauer who owns him, Justin Morneau, even Josh Willingham is not bad) and against a pitcher who is much better than Peacock. His home record is amazing too. I don't see how he would be anything under -400.

I doubt it. Tonight against the Twins he is -260, a team that features some all-star caliber players (i.e. Joe Mauer who owns Verlander, Justin Morneau, even Josh Willingham is decent) and a pitcher who is capable of pitching well. Peacock blows, (not only are his MLB number horrendous...have you seen his minor league numbers?), plays for a terrible terrible team with no quality players besides maybe Altuve. Verlander is 66-29 in Comerica Park with a 2.99 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. Sorry, don't see how the Astros would win 25% of the time against Verlander on the road with the team they have. We'll see how it plays out when they meet though.

no MLB team has been +400 or higher in recent years. Highest ever would be around +315 IIRC

Well well well....looks like the Tigers are -300 tonight against the Lastros. Highest priced game of the year so far, I think. Consider for a moment that this is Detroit's #4 starter (Sanchez) vs. Houston's #1 starter (Norris). Anyone seriously not think that Verlander would not be -400 against the Astros?

Astros will be outscored over these 3 games by at least 12 runs. No doubt they lose one of these games by 4+ runs, good time to chase the -3.5 if you can get it.
