Not a bad start. Jim Leyland made things a little complicated by taking Verlander out in the 5th inning and allowing his bullpen to give up a bounty of base runners, but thankfully the Twins have all the offensive prowess of 1930s Poland.

Well, it took nearly to 3:30 AM Central time, but the Diamondbacks give us another day in the black and a 3-1 record for Wednesday. Hope the hot hand continues!Tigers/Twins playing in that cold weather was a definite under play for me, though I did buy the extra run just to be on the safe side.

    Hi shift,

Didn't have a strong opinion on the Braves, so I laid off. They're swinging for the fences a lot early this year, so going to be some all-or-nothing games for them. When they're playing a (decent) rotation like the Phillies, especially without a lot of sample, sometimes hard to get a handle. Thanks for checking in!

Amazing start to the season GGR! What is your profit goal for this season? I laid off the Braves as well, figured we'd come out flat tonight after two huge wins to start the season.

    Thanks, Semper Fidelis!

No hard profit goal for the season. I feel like in the past when I've done that I've chased to get there and end up burning myself. My goal is to be right more than I'm wrong and make more than I spend.

Reds and Padres were both interesting games. Blanton seemed like he was in a mismatch for the Angels/Reds
-- at least statistically speaking -- and it took a while, but proved true. Once you get deeper down into the Mets rotation, they've got problems, and they are problems that their offense can't necessarily solve. The Padres have problems of their own, but at +137 at the tail end of a series, was worth a shot.

The White Sox looked flat and it is sometimes not the wisest idea to bet mid-level teams against teams like the Pirates and Royals coming out of the gate because they can streak.

Pettite is going to be shouldering the weight of the Yankees on the back end of a lot of losing streaks this year, and he's always very stoic in those positions. He's not going to win 20 games or anything, but anytime he is on the mound the Yankees will have a decent shot of being in the game. Seeing that they looked so abysmal in the first team games, we got a decent number.

Picks for FRIDAY, April 5th, 2013:

    New York Yankees +1.5 (-135) 4.00U to win 2.96U
Los Angeles Angels (+104) 8.00U to win 8.32U
Toronto Blue Jays (-158) 4.00U to win 2.53U
    Arizona Diamondbacks (+124) 8.00U to win 9.92U
    Oakland Athletics (-143) 16.00U to win 11.19U

    Baseball Record: 11-4-0, .733, +44.46U

Against my better judgment, raising unit sizes temporarily to see if I can take advantage of the hot streak, which typically means today is the day the hot streak ends.

A couple leans today. I think people are slightly overrating the Red Sox and slightly underrating the Blue Jays because of their opening series, and the number should be closer to -180 than it is, so I see some small value there. Still, the Blue Jays don't exactly light a fire in my belly and John Farrell will be very familiar with a lot of the guys, so it's just a lean for today. Another lean on the Yankees, who I think will try to roll some momentum off that win last night to get back to 2-2. The Yankees are going to have a long year, but the Tigers enjoy coming slow out of the gate and I trust Jim Leyland to manage his pitching staff properly in the early parts of the season about as much as I trust the US Congress.

Took the Angels in an afternoon tilt. Even though they're traveling from Cincinnati to Arlington on no rest, Holland has been eaten up by right handed batters over the last few years, and the Angels have plenty of slugging righties. After a 1-2 start in Cincinnati, too, Los Angeles will be eager to spoil the Rangers Opening Day festivities.

The Diamondbacks have a slight pitching advantage in my book in this game in Milwaukee, and though they might be short-staffed after a marathon game two nights ago, their offense looks pretty solid. Paul Goldschmidt has started the year on fire. I also don't trust the back end of the Brewers rotation, and outside of Braun, haven't seen a lot from the rest of that line-up in the early going to indicate they can win what might be a slugfest.

Lastly, a big 16.00U play on Oakland, who is heading into Houston to play the Charlotte Bobcats of the MLB. Again a bit surprised that the number is as low as it is, but Houston is going to bust a lot of big bets this year in a 162 game season, and maybe this is one of them. I hope not.

Well, a slow start but two big plays at the end of the evening give us another positive day. The Yankees didn't show up like I thought they would, and they may be a true fade team here in the early going. Basically, I picked the wrong team to get the W between the Red Sox and Yankees tonight. The Angels had a lead heading into the late innings, but two late runs in the 7th and 8th pushed the Rangers out in front. Holland surprised with a decent performance as the middle of the Angels line-up hasn't quite heated up yet.

Nevertheless, the Diamondbacks with a workmanlike win in Milwaukee, and Oakland separating from Houston as I expected win two big bets and give us a +5.11U net profit for the day.

Well, our first losing day of the season. Had to come at some point! We got 0-2-1 with the Athletics/Astros being graded a push. The Dodgers got a win for us, but won only 1-0, leaving a bounty of runners on base including two in the 8th inning. That's alright. We'll pick it back up with a profitable day today, hopefully.

Well. We're getting murdered today. Cole Hamels can't hold on to a 4-0 lead, the Marlins somehow manage to get only 3 runs on 13 hits and Verlander throws a dud.

Let's hope the Padres and Rockies score lots of runs so we can at least get a win on the weekend.

Side note: What are the Marlins doing with the infield in, with a 3-2 lead, 1 out, 2 on in the 9th? Bananas.

So we take one on the chin today but a couple late runs by the Rockies keeps us from having the Golden Sombrero. I'm not a fan of chasing after tough days, so we'll settle in for the evening and regroup for tomorrow. Might limit plays for the next few days while I get my bearings. Thanks for following along and sorry to anyone who tried to capitalize on my hot start the last two days. Baseball is a marathon not a sprint, we'll be in the green at the end of the year, as we are now.
