    Lou Pinella question

Trying to figure this out. The media keeps saying Steinbrenner fired Lou Pinella twice. I only recall Pinella manging the Yankees once for 2 1/2 seasons. Was he front office at some point?

Piniella was also the GM at one point, around '88 or so. Don't think he was on the job more than 12-14 months.

    That explains it. Thanks.

Looks like Steinbrenner will fire him again in this decade

    October 8, 2006

NEW YORK (AP) -- Yankees manager Joe Torre likely will be fired and replaced by Lou Piniella following another early exit from the playoffs, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.

Piniella is a lousy manager and a compulsive gambler.

    Yanks doomed for failure.

Gayrod had his best years under Sweet Lou, somehow I don't think there can be any positive that comes out of this hiring, long-term that is.

Would this be the same NY Daily News that, for the past two years, has reported the Astros are definitely about to trade Clemens to the Yanks?

Oh well, I guess if they throw dart after dart after dart, they're bound to hit a bull's eye once in a blue moon.

I understand the need to make a change, but Pinella? LMAO. Like remarrying the ex-wife you hate just because you haven't seen here in a while. I guess he figures with this big a payroll anyone has a chance to win it all, and he likely is right.

not surprised here, I thought Torre would be gone if they did not get to the WS
