I always thought it was funny that folks were so high on Dempster. Yea he had a good first half....but he's Ryan Dempster. He's been around a while, and never been great. Kevin Corriea did pretty much the same thing as Dempster last year, but no one would buy it....yet everyone is on the dumpster bandwagon.

I wouldn't compare him to Correria.

dempster has pitched at a high level in the past

    I think he'll be okay

    just needs to settle in

    Dempster career: 118-121 with a 4.32 era
    Correia career: 57-60 with a 4.59 era

    Correia 162 game average: 9-9
    dempster 162 game average: 9-10

Correia with a better win%, and pitching for far less talented teams.

Dude... you're judging career numbers when Dempster is a different pitcher since converting BACK from closer. Look at 2008-2012... He's had 4 good to great years, and 1 bad year.

    2008 33 33 1 0 206.2 174 75 68 14 76 187 17 6 0 0 0 6.7 1.21 2.96
    2009 31 31 1 1 200.0 196 94 81 22 65 172 11 9 0 0 0 3.2 1.31 3.65
    2010 34 34 1 0 215.1 198 110 92 25 86 208 15 12 0 0 0 2.4 1.32 3.85
    2011 34 34 0 0 202.1 211 111 108 23 82 191 10 14 0 0 0 0.5 1.45 4.80
    2012 2 2 0 0 11.1 15 11 8 3 4 12 1 0 0 0 0 -0.2 1.68 6.35
    2012 16 16 0 0 104.0 81 28 26 9 27 83 5 5 0 0 0 3.2 1.04 2.25

So yeah, you have a great point. Just show me that 5 year stretch that Correia has where he was good or great 4 of the 5 years.

I just buried you and your Dempster = Correia logic. Dempster was rock solid from 2008-2010 and superb this year.

11-9 and 15-12 is considered GREAT to you? I'll give you 08 but you need to reconsider your definition of great.

Ryan Dempster is only great to you because you're a cubs fan. "great" is obviously relative.

you're a complete moron if you think w/l has anything to do with how great a pitcher is.

The Cubs were absolutely horrendous in 2009 and 2010... so yeah, having an above .500 record with those teams is impressive.

My point isn't that Correia is good, it's that Dempster is nothing special. I could've pulled one of a million names out that applied.

Any intelligent baseball mind started laughing once you used W/L records to judge a pitcher at all... It is just way too much dependent on your bullpen and your offense and your defense.

Nova for the Yankees is probably going to retire with a better W/L percentage than Matt Cain...

Cain is 10 times the pitcher Nova is though. So who gives a fukk?

honestly I doubt the Pirates would trade Kevin Correia for Ryan Dempster...

Correia has very good stuff. He has always had a plus fastball. I remember him when he used to play for the Giants.. he's always had potential just never pitched for a team that gave him much run support.
