Cubs, Dodgers finishing off Dempster Deal

Cubs, Dodgers finishing off Dempster deal

Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM reports that the Dodgers are getting Ryan Dempster from the Cubs.

It's not a done deal quite yet, as the two sides are working on the finishing touches, but an agreement is expected before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline. It's not clear who the Cubs will get in return. Dempster, an impending free agent, has a 2.25 ERA through 16 starts this year.

Scott Miller of CBS Sports writes that it will be a "surprise if Ryan Dempster is not a Dodger by day's end."

According to Miller's colleague Danny Knobler, LA is determined to add a pitcher on Deadline Day: "If not Dempster, then someone lesser." ESPN's Jim Bowden, meanwhile, reports the Cubs and Dodgers are "finally closing in on the Dempster deal." Los Angeles is Dempster's preferred destination. The Dodgers and Cubs have been attempting to hammer out a deal ever since the veteran starter put the kibosh on a trade that would have sent him to Atlanta.

But Pitt will be a bigger favorite so "Action" won't benefit you. That's why you should always bet "Listed" and then if/when trade is made, shop around for best new price. Betting "Action" puts you at book's mercy.

Your right! If there is a pitching change, the moneyline price will be computed with revised odds based on the new pitchers.

there's no way I can see to take advantage of this.

as stated, action is a bad idea because you don't know what line you'll get.

Wouldn't betting Burnett/Cubs pitcher-Action keep the odds at -102 as long as Burnett starts?

Not so fast. Yankees supposedly have entered the picture as a possible Dempster suitor. Dodgers thought they had a steal and jumped the gun. LA needs to up its offer if they really want Dempster.

No. All it means is you have a bet as long as Burnett starts. However, the line will change if someone other than Dempster starts for the Cubs. That's what 'action' means.

I'd rather pitch in LA than New York as well. And Dempster has his 10/5 rights.

The Yankees and Cubs have discussed a trade involving Ryan Dempster, and the veteran starter has told Chicago he would accept a trade to New York.

Dempster is also on record as saying he'll accept a deal to the Dodgers. While that swap seemed like a foregone conclusion as recently as yesterday, Los Angeles appears to be dragging its heels on what prospects it will surrender in a swap. At this point, its possible that Theo Epstein and company are trying to use the Yankees and other clubs as leverage against the Dodgers. Resolution is coming.

Best thing to do in this situation is bet action, then you are locked in to these odds no matter who starts...........

    We know Burnett is starting........................
    This is all that matters..........

I locked into the Pirates +105 Action........................

Ryan Dempster willing to go to LAD, NYY, TEX

Ryan Dempster told Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago that he is willing to accept deals to the Dodgers, Yankees and Rangers.

This confirms a report by David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com. Jack Curry of YES Network reports that the Yankees haven't been told that Dempster would waive his no-trade clause to come to New York, but that could just a formality. It seems Theo Epstein and company finally have the leverage they need in trade talks with the Dodgers.

what a race the NL West is going to be with the Giants just getting Hunter Pence and Aubrey Huff back healthy. now the Dodgers adding Han Ram, Victorino and Dempster.

Dodgers need to step up and get serious if they want Dempster. They thought Dempster would only go to them so they had leverage, but it seems not so. I think Cubs want Zach Lee or Allen Webster.

another deal that is going to fly under the radar is the Giants getting Marco Scutaro. he is a perfect fit to hit infront of Melky and Posey.

this team can make another deep run.

Not sure why it would be that complicated. Yanks can afford his salary. Rangers also in the mix.

You are not locking in odds, you are locking in action in case there is a pitching change. The odds will adjust to the new opener after change.

    Dodgers Out On Dempster

By Tim Dierkes [July 31 at 2:49pm CST]
Cubs righty Ryan Dempster is scheduled to start tonight at Wrigley Field opposite A.J. Burnett, but a little thing called the trade deadline looms four hours prior to that contest. As a 10-and-5 player, however, Dempster must approve any trade. The latest:
    • The Dodgers are out on Dempster, tweets Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times.
    • Straight from the horse's mouth: Dempster told Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com he has expanded his list to include the Yankees and Rangers, in addition to the Dodgers.
    • The Dodgers are pursuing starting pitching on multiple fronts, notes Goldstein.
    • Money would have to be involved for Dempster to land with the Yankees, and with 90 minutes until the deadline there's been no talk of financials yet, tweets Sherman. The Cubs are said to like Yankees second base prospect Angelo Gumbs and third base prospect Dante Bichette Jr., but Sherman is not sure the Yankees would do that just to upgrade on Freddy Garcia. Reports are unclear on whether Dempster would approve a trade to the Yankees.
    • Echoing Kaplan, Nightengale tweets that the Cubs are engaged in heavy discussions with the Yankees on Dempster and are still talking to the Dodgers and Rangers. No one is copping to it on the Yankees' side, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The Yankees have indeed contacted the Cubs about Dempster, tweet Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports, but the teams are not talking seriously yet.
    • The Dodgers are not the only team discussing Dempster with the Cubs, tweets Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
    • The deal is not done yet, tweets Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus, as the Cubs really want prospect Allen Webster and are trying to add to Dempster to get him. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports concurs: there is no agreement yet.
    • The Cubs and Dodgers are "finally closing in on the Dempster deal," a source close to the negotations tells Jim Bowden of ESPN and MLB Network Radio.
    • The Dodgers remain focused on Dempster and want him even if they add another pitcher, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. They're also looking at hitters, and money does not seem to be a concern. Rosenthal notes that the Dodgers have worked on two massive deals over the last several days, both of which are now less likely.
    • There's no evidence of Dempster talk with the Yankees, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
    • The Dodgers, Rangers, and Yankees are in play for Dempster, reports David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com. The Rangers and Yankees stepped up their pursuit over the last 48 hours. Furthermore, Kaplan says Dempster is willing to approve a trade to any of the three teams.
    • Nothing was close late Monday between the Dodgers and Cubs, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
    • Dempster "remains adamant that he will only approve a trade to the Dodgers," reportsKen Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal says the Cubs and Dodgers are discussing Dempster and left fielder Alfonso Soriano. However, if the Dodgers acquire another target in outfielder Shane Victorino, they'd have little use for Soriano. With only one suitor, the Cubs' only leverage is weak: their alternative is to keep Dempster and make him a qualifying offer in the $12.5MM range after the season, with an eye on scoring one compensatory draft pick if he declines.
    • The Cubs and Braves' previous dialogue about Dempster made yesterday's Paul Maholm trade a little easier, Cubs GM Jed Hoyer told reporters including MLB.com's Carrie Muskat. As the centerpiece of that deal, the Cubs snagged Tommy John-rehabbing pitching prospect Arodys Vizcaino.
