The Cubs add a run to their lead in the top half of the 9th inning; Jeff Smardzja (probably butchered that spelling) is pitching a gem and dealing tonight. To me, shouldn't he be out there closing this game out instead of Marmol who can give up runs in bunches. And it's not just tonight, it's been like this all year. I see pitcher after pitcher throw a gem only to see them last 7 to 8 innings and then get pulled for some gas can reliever who couldn't throw a strike on a consistent basis. Nolan Ryan is right when he says that he expects his pitchers to throw innings. 10 to 15 years ago, pitchers would not be coming out of these types of games but it seems all these prima-donna closers need their chances. Bull, the best closer is the starting pitcher.
