They're a good team. No denial on that. But they are a very poorly constructed team and anyone could contend every year with their payroll.
Better to be the Yankees and always be in the playoffs with 5 titles in 15 years then a complete waste of money squad like the mets or your cubs.....

Cubs and Mets have consistently been in top 5 range for years (except 2012) and have dick to show for it

Cubs are rebuilding. But lets not pussyfoot around the issue here... Cubs hit 120-130 in their max... that is still not the same as consistently being above 200.

Imagine ANY baseball team and then add 5 super stars that make 15 million a year. That is the difference between a Cubs/Yankees payroll WHEN the Cubs were spending.

So yeah.. having the luxury of going out and getting 5 more superstars gives you a leg up... dummy.

Cubs had like 2 years spending a lot... Cubs have consistently been in the 90 million payroll range besides a 3-4 year period where Hendry was told to spend like a crazy moron.

Just silly to compare them to the Yankees.

Really dumb example. You don't understand peaks and valleys do you? Cubs overloaded that year... look at their payroll now.

All I'm saying is Cubs and Mets are proof that spending money like crazy doesn't mean automatic wins

Atleast the Yankees went all out and won titles......Much better to go that extra mile, then spend a lot of money and end up with a losing record

Look at their payroll now? Yeah because theo is doing the smart thing finally.......For the past 5 or 6 years they have been one of the top spenders year in and year out and got absolutely nothing out of it

Can't believe anyone played the Yanks tonight. Milone has been money at home and no one has been able to touch him

The only play here was under 7.5 because of the weather and Milone.

Like I said... the Cubs have spent money like the Yankees NEVER.

Do you understand that word? Never?

Like never? As in, never? As in, it has never happened? As in the thing you are arguing about has never, ever, ever happened? They loaded up some deals for 1-2 years and spent money to a big range for them, but still nowhere near the Red Sox/Yankees. Not even close.

The Yankees are consistently well over 200 million. The Cubs bounce between 80 and 130 depending on whether they have a contender.

If you can't see the difference in ALWAYS spending 200 million and bouncing between 80-130 based on your roster then I have no hope for you that you should even be discussing baseball.

Like I said... the Cubs were probably the best team in baseball in 2008 on paper when the peak of Jim Hendry's deals actually worked. And I think their payroll was around 125-130 that year. Imagine they had the luxury to go get 6-7 more superstars like the Yankees do? Playoffs might have worked out differently, huh?

Just silly to compare the two. Cubs spend when they see openings. Yankees spend when they breathe.

cubs might have the worst ratio of playoff wins to average yearly payroll of any team in MLB

on the other side of the spectrum the yankees would definitely have the best ratio
