I know Wood has to have heart surgery at some point to repair a hole in his heart. Would suck if he had any other problems.

yeah not even Hall of Very Good.....

maybe not even Good, for over half his career

big mystique based on 4th game of his career, and potential never reached due to roids weakening his tendons too much

Chi don't be stupid. He was throwing just as fast later on in his career in the pen. Steroids had nothing to do with his arm failing. If you pitched you'd know the slurve he was throwing slowly destroys your elbow. I used to throw a hard slider like that, my elbow still hurts when I toss the ball or football around.

yeah i threw the slurve a bit too...

can't blame the slurve for all wood's problems, and huge weight loss after testing began...

Chi, wood has never been linked to roids man. You are turning it into a witch hunt.

I think most of the blame is on that pitch. There is a reason no one throws it. My guess is wood was in severe pain early on throwing that pitch and thought it was normal. He even admitted he felt something pop on strikeout number 20. He was such a warrior he didn't even miss a start.

I don't understand the Wood = steroids assumption.

Throwing a baseball is detrimental to your body. Most pitchers if they pitch long enough have a serious injury or two.

I'd question someone more like Ken Griffey Jr. who pulled his hammy or groin every single time he moved his legs. That doesn't add up.

Another reason Wood's 20K 1 hitter is the best game ever pitched. Astros were one of the best hitting lineups in the big leagues. All of these no hitters and perfect games lately *always* seem to be against triple A caliber lineups.

Where does Wood stand as far as lifetime stats for K'S per 9 innings vs. other pitchers of his era?

Without knowing the answer my gut says he is right up there

If it wasn't for Alex S. Gonzalez, Kerry Wood leads the Cubs to their first WS title in *96 years*

Wood would have pitched 3 games in the Yankees series and been dominant in all of them.

I hope this stupid latino fukk rots.

Too busy checking himself out in the mirror and getting a manicure to field the easiest double play ball in history!

Gonzalez had a reputation for strong defensive play; however, in the 8th inning of Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS, he dropped a routine double play ball that would have ended the inning with the score 3-1 in favor of the Cubs. Gonzalez's error led to seven Florida Marlins runs which led to the Cubs losing the game, and ultimately the series. This was shortly after an incident in which a fan touched a foul ball that left fielder Moisés Alou might have caught. Alou reacted with visible frustration and anger after being unable to catch the ball, although there was no illegal interference on the play. The batter eventually drew a walk, and it was Gonzalez's error that opened the floodgates. Ironically, Gonzalez's strong point in the postseason was his offense; he batted .275 and hit 4 home runs in 12 postseason games. On July 31, 2004, the day of the trading deadline, Gonzalez was dealt in a four-team trade to the Montreal Expos with the Cubs acquiring Boston's Nomar Garciaparra to play shortstop. After a brief stint with the Expos, he was sent as part of a conditional deal to the San Diego Padres on September 16. He became a free agent after the season and signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for 2005 as a third baseman, making the switch from shortstop. After a brief, disappointing 2006 run with the Philadelphia Phillies, Gonzalez retired from baseball. However, he came out of retirement on January 12, 2007, signing a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals. But despite a strong showing in spring training during which he batted over .400, Gonzalez failed to make the Royals' 25-man roster prior to the 2007 season, and exercised his right to become a free agent. Shortly thereafter, he signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals and played 5 games for Triple-A Columbus before his release.
Gonzalez also has the dubious distinction of being one of the few players in MLB history to strikeout six times in a single game(known as the "titanium sombrero"), which occurred in a 13 inning match as a member of the Blue Jays on September 9, 1998.[1]

    What a damn loser.
