Cards pitcher, Mattheney, the worst in baseball

    3 Things Stunning:

1)How do you not bunt Lance Berkman in 8th with guys on 1st n 2nd 0 outs with Yadier on deck (3-3), are you playing for the big inning in a 2-2 ball game?

    2) How do you intentionally walk Ryan Ludwick when it is 3-0 and he has the red light to face Scott Rolen, a vet?

    3) Why is ur PH in the 9th swinging with a 3-1 count against Chapman?

Scott Rolen is a shell of his former self.

Rookie Managers have their bumps. Ventura has made some bone headed moves this season too.

As serious as a heartattack. Molina will get a sac fly, no doubt.

Yes its hard to have big ol Lance Berkmann bunting, but I agree. The SITUATION almost demanded it. Next run should win the game, to be able to get on a sacrifice you suck up your pride and have the big man put one down.

He's got one in his career

Hes got a better shot at starting out with two strikes or bunting into a dp than he does getting the job done.

They get either lead runner and it's an auto dp

If it's someone who's laid down a bunt in the last 10 years then sure.

Berkman problem doesn't even know how to bunt lol. he has a much better chance of driving in a run than laying down a successful sac bunt

You can't give a hitter a red light on 3-1.

I would not have had Berkman bunt.

Regarding the pinch hitter vs. Chapman, I didn't like how he was chasing pitches out of the zone like that (Chapman had been a little wild), but what are you going to do?

Ludwick is debatable. With an open base and a 3-0 count, I could see walking him.

Probably the 11th best hitter on club batting .240.... against a guy who throws 102 and barely knows where its going, it is a red light.

If grandma had nuts she would be grandpa.....
Everything goes wrong when you wager on the wrong team.

The hitter has no idea where the pitch is going and at 100+ mph
the is little room for error....They simply do not have time to hold
    back on a swing.

Mike Matheny has called more games behind the plate then you have seen.
He has a fine baseball mind. He simply has a bullpen that he cannot depend on
going into the 7th and 8th innings.

It's a common disease in the MLB today.

I understand it's Berkman, but I feel like you have to bunt in that situation a large majority of the time. If he gets it down then they have a sac fly and the lead. Easy to say in hindsight but you bunt there 90% of the time.

The Biggest mistake: Pulling Westbrook after he struck out the leadoff hitter, walked Votto, and hit Phillips. The next two batters, Bruce and Ludwick are sub .250 avg, and neither had a hit off Westbrook. Westbrook had tremendous control tonight throwing 24 out of 31 1st pitch strikes with Votto being his only walk. One ground ball, inning ending double play. Instead Matthney goes to the pen and Rzepczynski and Boggs do a masterful job with 3 batters to fall 2 runs behind.

If Berkman is not a decent bunter, should have pinch hit with a guy that is a quality bunter.
They walked Ludwick on the 3-0 count simply because 1st base was available and he had beat them the night before with the HR.
Didn't see Ph Greene's at bat.

    Hindsight bias is 20/20.

He walks Votto and hits Phillips, he gets left in, next batter hits a hanger for a three run shot; mother fukkers are calling for his head because he 'obviously' lost his control when he walked Votto and hit Phillips.

Take Berkman out of the game for a 'pinch bunter'. Bunter fails at getting down the bunt or worse yet gets doubled off, mother fukkers are calling for his head because he took out one of his best sluggers with a RISP and no outs.

Monday morning QBing at its finest.

This game screamed "Coin flip", was hard to predict this game. Was pissed but I laid off. I wanted to bet it so bad to have a chance to be up on the day but just couldn't even pick a team. Was fun to watch the end without a bet for once

lance berkman isn't there to bunt

    no matter what the situation

texeira could get a hit every fukkin time up against the shift if he put a hard bunt down the 3rd base line.

    not what he's there for

i agree with you op. if the game was in the early stages i would let berkman hit but in that situation where runs were a premium, bunting is the only option. sub in for a guy that can bunt for berkman if you have to but you can't just waste a perfect opportunity like that and blow the game...
