30 scoreless inning streak for Ryan Dempster (and counting)

I'm starting to think Cubs should hold on to him and re-sign him unless someone pays full value for him.

they gotta trade him. By the time the rebuild he wont be a top of the rotation starter. If he really wants to be a cub then trade him for a prospect or 2 and try to resign him.

Maybe try that out... he loves it in Chicago so I don't think he'd mind coming back. He's really learned how to pitch lately though.. his stuff isn't near as good as it used to be... fastball usually sitting 89-91 instead of 93-94 it used to be, but he is hitting spots and working hitters senseless. I don't see why he couldn't be very good for a couple more years at least and then solid for maybe a couple more.

he has def learned that art of pitching. But he is 35 yrs old. i give theo 2 or 3 yrs to completely rebuild the team. at that time he will be 38. Maybe a 4th or 5th starter then but not a 1 or 2. with his stuff hes an excellent 2 or 3 on a playoff team.

But like you said if he loves chicago just resign him next yr and get what you can this yr for him. Its been done before. Cant remember off the top of my head. But the only problem with that is if hes considered a type A free agent. Then its not worth it to sign him cuz you will end up giving up a first round draft pick.

But if hes a type A and you dont get any good offers, and they hold onto him the cubs will get a first round pick when he signs with some.

Hell the yankees signed texeria and gave the angels their first round pick the following draft and the angels ended up drafting trout. So sometimes holding on will payoff long term

mikeyanks, if some team will send us what he's worth, no problem with the trade... Just dont' want to end up trading Ted Lilly for Blake DeWitt again... pointless trade.

I don't think you understand this his contract ends at the end of this season. The Cubs could trade him and still re-sign him in the offseason. He WILL be traded, and should.

d2bets, oh, I understand... but as someone mentioned, if you trade him and sign him back you lose draft picks... and there is no guarantee Dempster won't love it wherever he goes and stays.

It is like letting your girl rail another man... there are possible complications getting her back, haha

I would think a whole host of teams will be inquiring into Dempster. Even though it's a rental the Cubs ought to be able to get a high quality prospect or two in return.

The Cubs should get much more in return in a trade than they would lose with draft picks, plus salary relief this season. Dempster is going to be traded, but the Cubs are going to milk it and make the team pay a serious price.

One more for the Cubs' record. Pretty huge feat considering the Cubs have been around forever. Think this might have been his last inning today though.

pretty easy to do it when you are not in a pennant race

ra dickey's unearned run streak of 44 2/3 innings more impressive

    mets in wild card chase

44 2/3 is better than 33? Is a $20 also worth more than a $10? I need more insight from you Zeta.

Wrong. Pitching is pitching whether your team is in the pennant race or not.

And Ryan Dempster has a better chance of pitching in the playoffs than RA Dickey this year. Think about that.

Zeta, lots of positive signs for the Cubs. The fact Theo was smart enough to go into a full rebuild was great news. I like the draft they had, they did a great job getting Rizzo and signing the two Cubans... things are looking up for the future.

The idiots who say, oh man, the Cubs are terrible this year, Theo must be an idiot, don't really understand baseball and I'm not too worried about their opinions. I'd be worried had Theo signed Aramis Ramirez, Marshall, and kept things the same.

It is amazing it lasted as long as it did.

Every right fielder in baseball besides LaHair and maybe 1-2 others and then a completely moronic shift on Holliday turns a sure DP into a single and then Castro is way too far up the middle for Beltran so another hit.

    Cubs aren't very good defensively.

In fact, I think it is safe to say the Cubs are the worst defensive team in baseball. Cheers, Dempster... for putting up with that for 33 tremendous innings!

i have to question your ability to correctly diagnose a play after your analysis about the jeter play in oakland last night

im afraid shitty defense might not be the culprit here

I have to question your baseball acumen if you think scouts are going to sour on a guy who has an ERA in the 2 area because of one 'possibly' bad inning with a couple of seeing eye hits. Dempster could give up 8 ER tonight... his value is about the same. He was due for a bad outing.
