Not huge sample sizes, but check out these pitchers' numbers vs. opposing hitters heading into this one.

Not so shocking if you follow MLB. Pitching keeps you in every game! Same as the Nationals. Their lineup is mediocre but yet they are 16 games over .500. Why? They are 1st in pitching. It's how the Braves won the Division title year in and year out. If you follow MLB you know that the Pirates have quietly amassed and stocked piled their farm system. Bringing in Burnett was a great move because he provides leadership and takes younger talent i.e James McDonald under his wing and teaches the art of pitching. Clint Barmes, although they paid way too much for him was another good signing. Why you ask? Players like Barmes, Barajas, Burnett bring it to the ball park game in and game out and teach the younger players, McCutchen, Walker, Alvarez how to act and be professional and that a complete season is 162!!

I admit that they can use some upgrades but what team can't? This isn't the 90's anymore. You are seeing what baseball was in the 70's and 80's when pitching would win you championships! That's how the Pirates are 10 games over.

Guys there are better plays out there than the "Cubs" ( 20 games below 500), and the flip of the coin Giants. Not too mention going against a streaking team Pale Sox.

I am considering betting against Pitt every game post all star break. this is not a good team, they will deviate back to the mean when the real teams start playing for position

Aj burnett is pitching like cy young.. no fkking chance he can keep this up

clint barmes and rod barajas will not continute to cross home plate for the win. people that had a good run on pitt on certain teams will get buried in the 2H.

lots of things change after ASB and i am 75% sure this is a moneymaker

very possible they regress somewhat but to act as if blindly fading them daily is a great idea is a dangerous way to think..they do after all play in the nl central..

stl will not drop of so once again im having to question your baseball knowledge...best lineup in the nl, good gm that will make the right moves, wainwright starting to round into pre tommy john form, gtfoh cards will be in nl central race till the end and more than likely grab a wild card at worst (barring any more injuries to starting pitchers) ..

not sure how much more lad can drop? once kemp comes back they will put things back 2gether...

muts will almost certainly fade, agree braves could be strong in 2nd half (need to start winning at home tho) ..Boston i just dont see unless few guys get healthy... miami i have been a seller on all yr as they have terrible makeup, a joke of manager and flat out suck.. kc should be better but not sure they ever will be.. pads i could buy as a team with chance to improve.. not like oak good, id expect them to continue playing around .500 balll.. jays who the fukk knows, you would prob klnow better than me, i know rasmus wont keep up the pace he been on in june cause he a bum..

rasmus is awesome. toronto baseball people saw something in him, and they were right

I just dont think st louis' bullpen and hitting can sustain the grind. they're in a dogfight either way

they saw same thing everyone saw for years (tor wasnt the only team interested as there always be a market with a kid with his skill set no mater the baggage he brings), they havnt seen the whiny sulky bitch daddy's boy as of yet, trust me you will at some point..remind me what he was hitting before june? guy is a slump away from being the whiny bitch he has been his whole career.. obvioudly hitting in front of joey bats has helped him greatly as most will do wel in that spot, al will figure him out and daddy will be up managements ass in no time..

Cards pen will be markedly improved before trade deadline like always, have no fukkin clue what you saying about their bats "not sustaining the grind" they are loaded with more talent than a team needs once berkman is healthy
