    Padres -125 to Sweep Cards

The Padres remain hot and the Cardinals continue their late-season slide tonight in St. Louis.

I'm laying the short price with the red-hot Padres as they shoot for the sweep in St. Louis.

The stretch run of the MLB season has simply come down to pitching for these two teams. San Diego has won six in a row. During the streak, the Friars have allowed just 12 ER, 40 hits, and 12 walks in 54 IP! That's a sizzling staff ERA of 2.00 with a fantastic 0.96 WHIP. In 14 road starts, tonight's Padres starter Chris Young is 6-0 and the Pads are 11-3. The 6'10" righty owns a 2.50 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in those road outings. In his last eight starts overall, Young has allowed just 13 ER and 29 BR in 43-2/3 IP. That adds up to a 2.68 ERA with a spectacular, 0.66 WHIP. Young has allowed just one hit in each of his last two starts, pitching a total of 14-2/3 IP.

Meanwhile, it's worst-case scenario tonight for the Redbirds. The pen is horrible and worn out, and now they start a hurler who has made it past 6-1/3 IP just once in 15 starts. In fact, Anthony Reyes has lasted five innings or less in five of his last six outings, including a 3-1/3 inning performance, and another that saw him hit the showers after just 2-1/3 IP.

We'll back the red-hot Padres with Young on the bump against Reyes and the Cardinals.

    Play: Padres -125

The way both these teams are playing right now, I too have to back the Padres in this spot.
