Another reason traps don't make sense is that books are far more concerned about "smart" (big) money. It doesn't make much sense to me to entice any more or any less than what they are comfortable with, which is what they always do. I agree they take risks and never have complete 50/50 action, but the imbalance that exists is referred to as a trap only by novices, in my opinion

Amen, stackin green. "traps" are nothing more than taking advantage of public perception. odds are sometimes even influenced by the public perception than ACTUAL HANDICAPPING (see okc/heat finals, espn analysts were busting a nut over the "athleticism" of okc, haha what a joke, paid to preach bullshit, thats what our media has become, after game 1 the bottom line was flooding with stats like "team that takes game 1 wins 76% of time in finals" this is to the extent of traps can exist, even though those who dig deep and actually look at the numbers realize their is MORE VALUE on a certain side than their ought to be. but public perception only effects llines to an extent

Is it true Landers is killing games right now? I got "trapped" on the Beckett/Kuroda under, although overs are always bet more by the public, so go figure. It was OVER in the 1st inning! I guess that's better than going over in the 9th ...

I was on a nice roll and then I got a little bold there. Hey, character comes out when you get back up, doesn't it? We'll see if anything stands out tomorrow. Good luck boys.

Kershaw +120 or so last night in STL was a big trap and Brock was all over it hook, line, and sinker.

I read an Ask Reddit ask me anything with a linesetter and he said this:
    "
The idea is that if we know something you don't and think we can predict the outcome, we make the line crazy and you take it blindly. Say we somehow ran all the numbers and knew the seahawks would beat the saints, instead of making it saints -10.5 we'd make it saints -3.5 so everyone takes the saints and we clean up.

It's obviously not as drastic as this but you get the idea. "

Call it what ever you want Brock.

    Trap, sandwich, let down, etc.

It's simply when something looks easier than it really is, no matter what field you are in.

If you are human, it exists.

In life, nothing is actually easy IMO.

    We have a winner.

It's a oddsmakers job to set a line he think will generate equal action on both sides, while it doesn't always happen that's his job. Once a oddsmaker sets a so called "trap line" he becomes a gambler which is not his job.

If a book manager has a feeling on a game he might shade the line a ½ point or take a extra hit on a certain number, if he thinks he can set a trap and win over time he won't last long in the industry cause the sharps will eat him alive.

If it's not an oddsmakers job to get equal action on both sides why set traps?

You look at a line like the Reds today

Big chalk hardly any movement and public all over it

If they are trying for equal action why not move the line?

Who's to say they aren't getting equal action on both sides, if a book is getting equal action no reason what so ever to move a line. Public could be on Reds while sharps are on Rockies which would balance the action, just because everyone at SBR loves the Reds doesn't mean that the line has to move.

Brock because you didn't use the word trap I believe that the trap game I bet today actually wasn't a trap but they decided to not move the line because all the BIG money was on the Rockies. I have it all figured out.
