    not at +137.

opening day this year it was lester vs verlander, and the sox were priced at +134. thats when they were at full strength.

they are at +137 in this game with ellsbury, cody ross, and possibly pedroia all out of the opening day side. not to mention verlander is on a roll and daniel bard has proven to be a subpar starting pitcher thus far. the sox are unplayable in this spot unless the price reaches +150

+137 is a head scratcher, JV is the best starter on the planet, Tiger bats are heating up, and the Red Sox feature Hall of Fame outfielders like Danny Nava, Scotty Pods, and Ryan Sweeny.

I see no reason why JV's line doesn't look like this when the dust settles tonight.

Yeah that +137 is not an accurate line. At least when they faced him on opening day they could rely on Lester to keep the tigers bats quiet, in this game they have to rely on bard and his 5.5 walks per 9 innings.

I would have played a -1RL but even the tigers -1.5 is a paltry +100, which is a pretty mediocre run line for a road team.

I commented elsewhere that I believe Det gets at least 4/5 runs tonight. So I'm pretty much in agreement with your #'s.

Interesting analysis man. Originally I thought it was not a bad play cause you gotta like Sox being underdogs at home but I'm going more on the other side

Do you think Bard is as good, better or worse than his era so far?

His WHIP and BB to K ratio has gotta be scary if you're backing the sox. Not too often do you see a guy maintain an era below even 6 with a whip like 1.56

Let's not forget the bad call Detroit got yesterday. A pissed off team (and manager, of course) is a motivated team.

    Simply put, yes.

If Bard had any control, he'd be a solid #3, decent #2, but he walks the ball park, and if he has to come in tonight against that beef (Miggy and Prince) well, he's going to be spanked.

I considered that, plus, umpires have a way of evening things out, if you don't believe that, you are naive.
Remember, the old man Leyland chose his words carefully yesterday in the post game presser, oh sure he was pissed, but it was a controlled pissed.

If JV gets one inch off the black called a strike tonight, he could very well strike out 13.

To add to that, the ump who blew the call yesterday had to deal with the public embarrasment of having the video all over the internet. Leyland asked for accountability and, although he may not get it from mlb, he did in this case from the court of public opinion. No one wants to look incompetent and have the video shown all over. The umps today will have that thought in the back of their minds, IMO.
