Will you be following Albert Pujols' pursuit of Maris?

With all the ongoing lunacy surrounding baseball's tainted (or soon to be tainted) records, this is just the latest angle I've heard.

Some fans want MLB to give full-fledged acknowledgement to Albert Pujols this season if his home run total starts to approach 61. That of course is the old single season standard set by Roger Maris in 1961 which has only been broken by the steroid squad of McGwire, Sosa and Bonds.

MLB can not and will not do that officially of course, but some fans are hoping they can get a grassroots thing going.

My point of view remains consistent: Do what you want about this crap; I just want to bet on the games. I have no idea why anyone would feel so sure Pujols isn't juiced - but whatever.

    Anything to this?

I'll be following Albert Pujols whether or not he gets close to Babe Ruth's 60, Roger Maris' 61, Mark McGwire's 70 or Barry Bonds' 73. I'm not going to let someone else's definition of what a 'tainted record' is distract me from the game itself and whatever numbers players this year might put up.

If he keeps fouling balls of he feet or slipping on the "on deck" circle. He wont be hitting much of anything.

Im sure the fans would rather Pujols have the single season homerun record then their beloved Bonds.

I'll be following it just to see how many he can hit this year.

i know the reporters are already giving Albert the third degree about human growth hormones, and he isn't dening it either

Welp. He just hit number 20. If they keep pitching to him, we may see 75 homeruns from this guy.

We are all fortunate enough to be witnessing some amazing players in the various leagues. Albert Pujols could very well be the greatest hitter of all time when it's all said and done. Lebron James will eventually be considered the greatest basketball player to ever play the game, and Peyton Manning will finish his career as the greatest quarterback ever in the NFL if he can win at least 2 SB rings.

Agreed on all points, but don't measure Peyton's greatness by SB rings. Remember, football is completely different than basketball. There are at least 24 players on each team that have a say in the outcome plus various other back-ups on special teams.

He's proven alot, most just don't pay attention enough to see it. he went 2 consecutive playoff games with a perfect quarterback rating and the offense never punted either game. The Colts have lost before when threw for 5 TD's and 350 yards. What else could he have done? 6 TD's I guess.

If Brady puts up those numbers, the pats would destroy teams. But he'll go with his 145 yards passing for 2 TD's and 1 pick and because the team wins and they have a great kicker who makes clutch kicks, he gets the credit.

I just hope the Colts get 4 rings and Peyton breaks every record known to man and God, then I can finally stop typing posts like this.

    2005 Reg Season Stats
    Tom Brady
    4110 PASSING YDS

    Peyton Manning
    3747 PASSING YDS

I have kept hearing you say that Brady doesn't
put up any #'s. How can that be when he threw
for over 363 YDS more than your boy did last year???

Brady is one hell of a QB maybe not as talented and
crafty as Manning but he throws accurately and
is a proven winner. Brady throws for 300 all the time.

Selfish Bonds said tonight "you can all go back to watching Pujols" I'm sure he meant no harm, but you can tell he wants all of the attention.

That is the first year he has ever done that. He led the NFL in passing yards last year. Look at all the other years, his numbers were not even close to that.

And last year was manning's worst for passing yardage since his rookie season. he had like 6 conseutive 4,000 yard seasons until last.

What you say is true based solely on last year, not their careers. I've seen many pats games where Brady will throw for less than 200 yards and on a few occasions, less than a 100 yardsand they will still eek out a win. Manning puts those numbers up and they Colts lose by 14.

    Pujols hits another one today.

it's truely amazing how teams continue to pitch to this game all the time still.

But with Edmonds behind him, you can't give Pujols a free ticket to 1st base at each AB - he got his HR today when the bases were empty so there was little point in walking him. I don't see the point in walking Bonds as often as they do either - there are numerous other batters more likely to hit a homer than he is.

reports today are saying that Pujols have been tested 3x's since the begining of the season. the results have not been released as of yet though.

with the way he is defending Bonds as of late. i'm wondering what those results really are.

I'm sure he is clean. If not, that would be a huge blow to the game.

There he goes again - number 23 with a 3 run homer.

Top of the 1st, runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs. I don't like to see him walked for the sake of it, but I think he should have been that time.

as strange as it might sound, and the sick part is i agree taco.

this guy seems to burn teams in these spots all the time lately. why not let rolen try and beat you instead. the odds of him burning you are far less of a chance that albert.

Another one today. 24 on the season now.

Now that Bonds has passed Ruth, Im sure ESPN will tune its attention to Pujols.

I predicted 75 earlier in this thread. We will see. I hope he pressures that single season record this year. It is added excitement to the season.

It doesnt seem they have yet. Managers are still pitching to him. After 2 months of baseball. Maybe they will get smarter as the season goes on, but as of right now, they are not.
