Derek Jeter haters? I can't hear you

2 for 5 last night, 2 runs scored, 3 RBI

    2012 numbers to date.

15 for 41 (.366) On Base Percentage of .395, Slugging Percentage of .610 OPS 1.005
2 Dingers, 6 extra base hits, don't give me that "but he's got limited range at short" crap, he still makes every play to him, and doesn't make fielding mistakes.

glad to see him back to his stylish best, but you could easily make a case for him being one of the most ineffective defensive shortstops in the game

    JJ

If he makes it to 4,000 hits he must then be regarded as the greatest shortstop ever.

Mediocre at best range, nobody debates this, however, there is more than RF and ZR.
He makes every play at him, he's better than the flashy shortstop that covers 28 percent more ground, but boots 34 percent more balls, or the flashy shortstop with the noodle arm throwing deep in the hole.

Jeter never botches the 4-6-3 or 6-4-3, turns that DP better than almost all, knows where to position himself for the cutoff, never makes a bad cutoff throw to the plate...........

I don't think it's that big of a deal for a shortstop age 36 (2010) to have below average range.

I'm a big Yankee fan, and I get some good laughs making fun of Jeter's range... But let's not forget that he's 38 years old. People who argue he isn't an all time great shortstop because of his range... Go watch some film of Jeter in his prime, or even in his early/mid 30s. Let's not forget that Jeter has been in the majors since 1995.

Jeter is both overrated by the casual fan and underrated by SABRtards (People who consider themselves astute baseball fans via statistical understanding, but don't understand why ZIPS regressing every BABIP is completely ******* retarded).

His defense is trash. He'll be much better than his ZIPS (for the reason stated above) and his defense is fine considering he's one of the best offensive SSs to ever play the game.

He'll never even touch Honus Wagner's level though. Maybe if he plays till Julio Franco age.

Don't really think people hate on Derek Jeter much, most Yankee haters direct it at A-Rod.....

I grew up watching Jeter dominate in the playoffs for my favorite team and was happy to see him hit 3000 last season.....Since the All Star Break last season he has put up some damn good numbers, but I wonder what happens in a few years when he simply can't play SS anymore due to age......I'm a big Nunez fan but he's gotta learn the position better

Im so happy the Yankees have gone away from the Roger Clemens, Jason Giambi, Randy Johnson meatheads......Now just going for guys through their system and of course the free agents/trades that present value.....Not just throwing retarded money all over the place anymore

Johnson and Clemens are two of the best pitchers to ever play (Clemens being the GOAT and Johnson merely being a top 3 lefty). They both have put up seasons that Hallagay would have wet dreams to throw.

Here's the short stops I'd take over Jeter.

    Tulo

Here's the list of SS's I put in Jeter's class but would have to think long and hard before I took over Jeter.

Reyes, but you know he'll go down with yet another hammy pull, so what good is he when he's sitting on the bench for 30 games nursing the hammy.

    Han-Ram doesn't play SS anymore

    As-Cab is a solid SS
    Castro is good too
Infante and Desmond fly under the radar but have game too.
Andrus is crap so far in April, but is still a good SS
    Peralta is inconsistent

So back your post up, you said there a dozen (OK close to a dozen) name 12 shortstops you'd take right now over Jeter.
