Phillies vs. Marlins

Josh Johnson (12-6, 2.99 ERA) toes the rubber tonight for Florida. Johnson has been superb in his rookie season for the Marlins.

His ERA places him third in the majors behind Minnesota's Johan Santana (2.84) and St. Louis' Chris Carpenter (2.97).

Johnson has won three straight decisions and Florida has won the last five times Johnson's started.

Johnson beat the Phillies 15-2 on July 31, giving up just one run on five hits in seven innings. He has a 3.60 ERA in three career games against Philadelphia.
Jon Lieber (6-9, 4.93), who was the losing pitcher on July 31, tops the hill for the Phillies tonight.
Lieber has turned his season around and will be looking for his third straight decision tonight.

The right-hander's ERA was 6.09 after that loss, in which he surrendered nine runs on 13 hits in 4 2-3 innings, but he's done well in his last five outings, displaying the stuff that helped him win 17 games last season.

Lieber is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in those five outings.

He is 8-8 with a 4.79 ERA in 28 career games against the Marlins, including 1-2 with an 8.66 ERA in three starts against Florida this season.

The bottom line is both starting pitchers are pitching well and should pitch well today.
