Mets vs. Astros

Tom Glavine (12-6, 3.92 ERA) toes the rubber tonight for the Mets. The verteran southpaw will make his first start in 16 days after being on the shelf with a blood clot in his left shoulder.

The two-time Cy Young Award winner needs just 13 wins to reach the magical 300 mark for his career.

Tonight will be Glavine's first start of the season against Houston. Since joining the Mets in 2003, Glavine is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts against the Astros with the loss coming July 30, 2005 at Minute Maid Park.

Wandy Rodriguez (9-8, 5.46) will top the hill tonight for Houston. Rodriguez has not won in nearly two months, as he is 0-3 with an 8.82 ERA in his last six appearances, including three starts.

The left-hander lost his last start last Thursday, when he allowed five runs on eight hits while striking out seven in 5-3 loss at Pittsburgh.

Rodriguez allowed a hit with two strikeouts in one scoreless inning of relief in a 10-3 win over Milwaukee on Tuesday.

The bottom line is the under is 7-2-1 in Houston's last 10 home games and
9-3 in the last twelve meetings between these two teams. Look for Glavine to pitch well tonight, while Rodriguez should be good enough to prevent this one from going over.

Game Time: 9/1/2006 8:05:00 PM

Play: UNDER.
