yes, they better be throwing that back into development and signing some first time eligible free agents soon. Too many of these owners just want to make $ and don't care if the product on the team wins or not.

its a shame that MLB changed the draft bonus rules to handicap small market losing teams.

Unreal. One of the best overall players in baseball for less than $9 million per. What a steal.

McCutchen slightly overrated for sure, but there are guys batting .220 signing bigger contracts than this.
WTF was he thinking? His agent should be hung.
Great thievery by the Pirates here. Even if he flops in the next 5 years he's worth the money they gave him.
Could go down as one of the best steals ever or come a close 2nd to Longoria's contract.

Oops. Didn't realize this was a bump. LOL
Obviously a steal by the Pirates either way though.

Yep, Pirates only had to pay 4.5 million due that MVP season last year!

His agent should be fired. Missing about 100 million in that contract

just read that the two non first place votes that McCutchen got were both from St. Louis sports writers

the one guy even had Molina as his first place vote and chris carpenter as his 2nd

    such d-bags

this is how you sign a player to an extension, Marlins

Cutch took the early money and might lose 200-300 million

after 4 more seasons he might still get paid pretty big for 2019 season and beyond when he is 32 years old

funny thing is Marlins will win another world series before the Pirates win one.

Marlins arent afraid to go after it.

Pirates general manager should be shot for letting Justin Morneau walk.

I don't think there was big competition for Morneau after his contract ran out

any GM could have had him and he took a big pay cut from his last contract to sign with Colorado

    no one saw that coming

but least of all the Pirates GM couldn't have seen that coming, as he had zero HRs and 5 rbi in 130 plate appearances in the end of the regular season and playoffs in black and gold.

the twins also let him walk right?

they got a minor league reliever with 1.1 innings pitched experience who never pitched in the majors for him.... whom they later released and the pirates signed again.

So they gave him away for nothing and could have signed him in the offseason, but didn't think him worth it
