    Padres vs. Rockies

    Padres vs. Rockies

Today the National Sports Advisors look for the Padres and Rockies to score under 9 runs tonight.

Jake Peavy (7-12, 4.35 ERA) looks to build on his last outing when he toesthe slab for San Diego tonight. He tossed seven shutout innings Tuesday, allowing just three hits in a 1-0 victory over the Dodgers. Peavy has a 1.89 ERA over five starts in August, giving up just seven runsin 33 1-3 innings while limiting opponents to a .183 batting average. He haswalked just 11 hitters during that span while striking out 33, but is 2-2 asthe Padres have averaged only1.89 runs in support of him.

Peavy has won his last two road starts, surrendering just four runs in 14innings. His last outing on the road against the Rockies was awful, however,as he allowed eight runs and 11 hits over four innings in a10-4 loss on April 9. Peavy is 4-3 with a 4.32 ERA in nine career startsagainst the Rockies. Aaron Cook (8-12, 4.05) will try to avoid losing his third straight starttoday for Colorado. The right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits oversix innings in a 4-1 loss to Milwaukee on Tuesday. Cook is 6-3 with a 3.01 ERA in 13 career outings versus the Padres. Heallowed two runs and 10 hits over seven innings in a 2-0 loss on May 30 toSan Diego.

The bottom line is Peavy should continue his outstanding pitching withanother strong outing today, while Cook is good enough to prevent the Padresfrom scoring enough runs to push this game over.
