The Mets have been humbled in the first two games of this series. After losing Monday's opener 11-0 they dropped yesterday's game 11-4. Despite those results, the Mets remain the best team in the National League. Looking to avoid the sweep, I expect them to deliver a highly motivated effort.
New York will be facing Jon Lieber and he's struggled all year. Lieber has gone 1-4 with a 5.12 ERA in seven starts since returning from injury and is now 4-9 with a 5.51 ERA for the season.
Glavine, on the other hand, is 12-5 (NY was 19-6!) in 25 starts with a solid 3.92 ERA. Glavine hasn't been getting many victories recently. However, he comes off back-to-back quality starts and has always fared well vs. the Phillies. In 58 careers starts against Philadelphia he has gone 26-16 with a 3.82 ERA.
Let's look for Glavine to outpitch Lieber as the Mets bounce back and improve to 32-18 against the National League East.
