    Padres Should Avoid Sweep

Chris Young and the Pads look to salvage their series finale against the Mets in a getaway day special.

Last night's 4-3 Mets victory gave them the first two of the 3-game set, and it'll be up to the towering Chris Young to help the Pads avoid the sweep and keep pace with the red hot Dodgers who finally lost a game last night.

The Padres have been respectable in Game 3 of a series this year winning 10 of their 17 games. New York, on the other hand, is a few games under .500 after winning the second game in a series. Looking at the overall splits for Chris Young and Orlando Hernandez would certainly have one pointed in backing the division leading Mets at such a cheap price. However, "El Duque" has been atrocious in his day starts while Chris Young has been flat out nasty.

Young's only 2-1 overall during the day, but his ERA is a very respectable 2.20 and he's only given up 18 hits in 32 total innings of work. His WHIP is also a stellar 0.89 with 26 stirekeouts and only 11 free passes.

Orlando's ERA skyrockets up to 6.40, almost a run and a half higher than his overall mark of 4.97, and he's given up 41 hits in 45 innings of work. Batters see him much better during the day, and I'm looking for the Padres bats to finally step up and avoid the sweep. Another added incentive is the fact that HP Ump Brian O'Nora has catered to the visitor more this season as they've won 13 of the 23 games this season when he's behind the dish.

Back the dawgies here to avoid the sweep on getaway day. Take the Padres +123.
