    agreed

Mo has a much better WH/IP ratio, better earned run average, with 39 saves.

Paco seems to neglect to tell us Valerde has four losses this season so far.
May not be blown saves, but he does four losses, what happened there Paco?

No need to carry on this conversation. Obviously ya don't understand how important a FUCKEN closer is.
Why do you guys keep saying this? They are not in 3rd place behind the white sox and indians without Valverde. He would have to be tied with the major league leader in blown saves AND the Tigers would have to lose all those blown saves just for the White Sox to pass them by 0.5 a game. That means no team in baseball would have more saves turned to losses by a single pitcher than the Tigers and yet they would only be a 0.5 game out. Replace him with a league average closer and they are still in first place by a handful of games.

Miggy Cabrera is the one who is getting those save chances for Valverde anyway. Without him, Valverde doesn't get the chance to go 42-42 in one of the more meaningless statistical categories in baseball. Miggy goes in there day after day and produces while Valverde sits on his ass for 95% of the season.

He's not MVP of his own team, he's not a top 3 MVP of his own team, and he is nowhere near the MVP of the league.

    Ding, ding, ding winnah

    Exactly.

Miggy, V-Mart, Mags (when he's in the line up) etc. etc. etc. get the runs to set up the 7th inning leads, that afford Valverde the opportunity to get the ninth inning save.

Nobody is denying what Valverde has done this season is special, but when he drives in a pair with a bases loaded single like V-Mart or Miggy, or even goes out every fifth day and goes eight solid innings (to set up Valverde for a save, like Verlander does (who is also more valuable to the Tigers than Valverde) then we can start talking MVP for Valverde.

Valverde isn't even CY Young on his own team, that award would go to Verlander.

You forgetting V-Mart? The guy with the 4th highest BA in the league and 2nd highest BA with RISP. The guy who has helped cut Miggy's Intentional walks in half from a year ago and allowing him to hit more with RISP. Miggy's #1 in the league hitting with RISP btw.

And the same V-Mart that helped transorm Valverde into the pitcher he has become this year...

On the first day of spring training this year, Martinez was assigned to catch closer Jose Valverde in his first workout in the bullpen, and Valverde -- who had almost uniformly thrown a four-seam fastball in past years -- mixed in a two-seam fastball, a pitch that usually veers inside against right-handed hitters.
When the session was over, Martinez told Valverde that the two-seamer had pretty good movement. "You ought to keep throwing that," he said. Valverde hadn't thought much of it; he'd always mixed a four-seam fastball and a splitter. But he followed Martinez's advice, and when the exhibition games began, he started throwing his two-seam fastball. What he liked about the pitch the most, he found, was that he could keep it down, out of the most dangerous parts of the strike zone.
"I almost never throw the four-seamer now," said Valverde. "All two-seamers."

sidekick: thats great now lets talk about the padras and giants game for 30 minutes and talk about the giants struggles at the plate...

harold reynalds: what jose has done is remarkable... (interupted)

sidekick: lets talk about the nl cy young for the next 3 hours and place bounties on the head of anyone who doesent vote for clayton kershaw because we are the most west coast biased network in the universe.

he is a mythical player in our time

when he hangs it up we will probably never see another

its blasphemy to even mention valverde as an mvp candidate. its utterly ridiculous.
