the thing I like about Bell is he's better suited to Hoffman's intro music

makes you wonder if that was why they signed him in the first place

k-rod is really good you're completely wrong about that. he's only blown one. heath bell is good too, and romo for giants is starting to look better than wilson.

I feel like Marmol has the best stuff. If he played on a better club, and had a better pitching coach I think he could be a top guy

You guys give Brian Wilson way to much love.
The big reason for the ring he has is the guys who pitch the first 8 innings more so then the fact he pitchers the ninth inning.
Cain, Zito, Timmy and to a lesser extent Bumgarner, and Sanchez put Wilson in a position to succeed, they made it easy for him.

Wilson's career numbers for a closer are poor.
    Very poor.

Considering 95 percent of the time he starts the ninth inning, 3.11 earned run average is crap.
Solid if you are a starter, crap if your job is to pitch the ultimate inning.

His WH/IP of 1.3 is crap, that's over 11 base runners nine.
That's barely serviceable if you are a number 3 starter.
This year it's worse, 1.41, he's blown 2 saves to boot.

His career record of 19-17 is shaky.

Mo's numbers crush Wilson's numbers in every area.

15 years of closing, 1.00 WH/IP, Career earned run average of 2.22 and on and on and on.

There are at least 5 better closers in the game better than Wilson.

When I think of Brian Wilson, I think Troy Percival or Keith Foulke, when I think Mo Rivera I think Hall of Famer the best there ever was.

Comparing other closers to Rivera, is the same as comparing up and coming NBA'ers to MJ.

Nobody will ever stack up to MJ, and you are just minimalizing others careers by comparing them to the best ever.

Was about to say the same thing. I dont think anyone here can argue against Mo now or what he has done throughout his career, its like trying to compare every new NBA stud to MJ, just isnt fair.

    read my mind Huli.

OK, I'll give you your point, unfair to compare Mo to Wilson.

Posters shit on Huston Street here, but his all around career numbers are much better than Wilson.
Paps? No even close, I hate the guy but give me Paps 99 times out of 100 over Wilson.
Since coming over to SD from the Mets, Heath Bell's numbers are ridiculously low.
Only his second year, but Drew Storen was lockdown in 2010 as 7th and 8th inning guy, for a shitty Nat's team, and he's been shutting the door so far the first half of 2011.
Laugh at me if you want, but given the choice of Wilson and his 8.5 mil per salary or Storen and his 418K salary, give me Storen, and the 8 mil saved I'll get me another pitcher and an outfielder.
Storen saves games for 5 guys named Dick, Wilson saves games for future Hall of Famer Timmy and such.

When you ask me to list the top ten closers in the league, I got Wilson somewhere in the middle of that top ten.

Oh yeah, the beard is cool and all that, doesn't make him an elite closer though.

Yeah, if you like your closer to give up a hit or two an inning before sealing the deal, kind of like John Franco back in the day.

With a WH/IP of 0.99 and an earned run average of a buck and a third.

He's having a better year then Storen.
