heh heh, quote-unquote the announcer on MLB.tv: "Tim Welke just has a small strike zone, he's always had that."

    in and of itself, nothing.

what's interesting is that this stat also is compiled over the same limited time period, and thus, according to you, irrelevant.

well if you would please correct me if my logic is off somewhere.....the home plate umpire has 1 impact on the game and thats calling balls and strikes. calling less strikes in theory means more offense. but you are saying that 2 extra strikes means nothing so where does the advantage come in?

isn't the most plausible explantation for this that it's selective memory at play and Welde may just have a more variable strike zone than most umps and therefore his missed strikes are always remembered. if less strikes does not equal more runs than how can there be an impact?

gotta love when the only thing you have to worry about after the 5th inning is a rain-out.
after 5 inn the game would be official and your bet would still win.

    nice call on TB over...

i think totals are void for me if game doesn't go 8.5 innings. it has actually saved me twice this year, once on a decent-sized under play when Red Sox killed Tigers in Detroit but game was called in 8th with Sox up like 10 runs. nice calls by you, too, Miller let us down, but can't complain given how solid he's been. i don't think that anything can save the under if Vazcan goes off like he did tonight.

4-1 +6.4u. did lose the 4* play, but that's what i get for making my bigger play on an under with Javier Vazquez.

    biff congrats.

Tommorrow I like 2 totals for 5 innings.

    dodgers/rockies over 4.5 (+100)
    cardinals/brewers over 4.5 (+100)

ON saturday these teams stayed under the 5 inning total.

this was a winner, too. i'll keep posting this guy's picks. this guy is now 4-0 on the aussie rules picks that he's sent me. love checking my account balance in the morning and finding an overnight winner.

thanks, man. my record for the season is 121-104-11 +22.7u. however, since i went to just totals, it's been much more consistent (34-16-2 +42.99u since Memorial Day; was almost -35u around a month ago). am 44-27-3 on overs, 45-38-7 on unders (haven't tracked exact units at that level, though), so although i always tend to prefer under, overs seems to have been treating me better. i've had a lot of good breaks, and i'm sure that this hot streak will end any time now, but loving it while it lasts.

thanks, Dexter. actually, i owe you a big thank you. i never capped bases until this year, and your thread is gold mine of info - you're very generous to share. umps, stadiums, weather, SP, bullpens and how an offense performs against LHP/RHP are the most important factors in totals imho, and reading your thread early on really helped me with umps, so cheers to you.

let's hope that James Hoye maintains his season-to-date form today.
