I like this play for today. after looking at the pitching matchup, it looks to me that the Angels has the advantage there. TB pitcher Cobb really hasnt pitched that much this year (2 games), but he did face LAA on May 1st and took the loss. He didnt pitch very good at all against them lasting only 4.1 innings, giving up 4 earned runs. While LAA pitcher Haren has a 2011 score rating of a (+147) and his last 3 starts (+12) that could be better for him. The last 3 games against TB he has a rating of a (+55) and thats really good. To me that looks like a clear advantage in this match up. Its all about LAA bats coming alive, thats the question mark.

I model this game at LAA -152, however, I don't have enought into on TB's pitcher (COBB, 10 Inn's, 7 K's, 8 BB's, 1 HR.) to 'cap this game more closely. Local paper has V. Wells back tonight after a 2 gam AAA stint, and slumping Hunter hit the ball hard last night including a fence pounding double that just missed a HR by inches.

I simply cannot lay -165 to a team worth -152, (on a 5 gm losing streak and batting .258, scoring slightly over 3.5 rpg in the last week.)

I think I'll try to find a workable parlay...

Its a marathon not a sprint, lets see where his stats rank at season end. If I could pick 10 top hurlers in all of MLB today, this guy would definitely not be on my list. He will start getting blasted, never fails, just give it time and like I said see where he ends up at season end.

Not confusing the two, I just don't think D. Haren is a top pitcher worthy of high chalked prices in the nature of Doc prices, just my IMO. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion and that's my view on him.

In 9 MLB seasons thus far, he is 96-77, that's an average of about 2 games above the 500 mark per season, not a guy I would lay with....just my IMO.

Haren has had somewhat of a hard luck career in terms of run support. He's pitched at least 215 innings over the last 6 seasons and posts a career WHIP of 1.18, but over that time he's consistently been on teams that rank in the bottom third over the MLB in offensive production (OAK/ARI/LAA). Past W/L record is one of the least predictive metrics you can use to assess a pitcher's value.

Possibly. I like Haren in this spot to go deep into the game and I like the Angel bats to bounce back tonight against a rookie starter that they've already seen, and has had a lot of trouble locating his fastball and changeup so far.

Knew I was fukked in the first inning when the Angels got 3 men on base and failed to convert even one run... Haren did actually pitch fairly well, getting himself out of a couple of bad spots. Cobb didn't really settle his changeup until the third inning (relying mostly on the first pitch curveball), and from that point it was all over.

Still time for a 9th inning comeback ... nope.
