    3 Balls No Strikes

The chance of the pitcher throwing 3 straight strikes are extremely low. Why not stand and take the walk instead of swinging and grounding out on a possible ball 4.

Because the pitcher is still trying to get you out.

When you have 3 balls and no strikes? Uh, taking the WALK should always be the better option imo especially when you suck at hitting.

I hope you aren't referring to me. Clearly you have not read any of my posts or the title of this thread. Do you wear a hat on your head that reads dunce.

No sh*t its favorable to the batter, but they still swing.

Again your getting things wrong....average batters will take or usually its up to the manager. Top batters usually have the green light.

Also chance of a pitcher throwing three straight strikes is not "extremely low"

because if they dont WANT to walk you, thats when youre most likely to get a good pitch. hit a 3-run homer instead of walkin to first.

plus if you swing at a bad pitch at least you can foul it off, if you swing at a good one, you can lay the wood.

some people DO try to take the walk and get 2 strikes looking that they coulda hit for somethin nice, and then the count is full all of the sudden AND they missed some opportunities.

Well I've noticed a lot that they usually take the 4th pitch which always seems to be a fastball for a strike..atleast the games I watched...not sure why

    What that guy said

The pitcher is trying to avoid walking a guy and putting another man on base.

The batter is more likely to see better pitches in this situation.

And 90+% of the time, we see the fastball down the middle with the hitter taking. A free strike for the pitcher. Now what are chances he throws 2 strikes?

    All moot anyway, baseball sucks

It's a moneyball-ish type concept and you are right. However, taking the pitch likely only applies on 3-0, and to a lesser extent 3-1. At 3-2 you are more likely to reach base (or seeing another pitch, aka not making an out) by swinging.

It's all about reaching base, can't make runs unless you DONT make an out.

Working the math of the ball diameter, width of plate, size of strike zone , etc., trust me when I say that it would take 88 balls to fill up the rectangle of the strike zone.
    1. The situation will always drive any decision.

    2. The hitter should be allowed to swing at approx. 2 of the balls located within the zone at 3-0. Because each hitter has a different " favorite spot " the player has that final say but the hitting coach and manager are well aware of that location.
Anything outside of that 2 ball area would be considered a mistake.

3.This two ball area is roughly a 3 inch by 6 inch area, not two separate 2.9 inch areas in two different locations.

    this.

and i wouldnt say 3 staight strikes is extremely low.

If its 3-0 and its albert pujols, you'll prob throw him a ball or try to paint the corners but your def not throwing it right down the middle. If your facing a number 9 hitter(or a pitcher) then you have less fear of throwing 3 straight strikes.

So you couldn't have thought this out much before you posted this thread.

lets not forget that their professional baseball players...
