Holy shit... Aroldis Chapman is the best pitcher in baseball.

I dont care what anyone says.

Just watched this pitch and hes unbelievable. 104 mph fastball .
    17 strikes on 19 pitches.

Why is this guy not starting ?

    Someone please tell me.

he was starting last year...not sure why he's not anymore...control problems I think

he was a top prospect and he's still young...i'm sure they'll have him back in the rotation by mid june

    Rod,

    Pull yourself together..

There is more to pitching than throwing hard...

The rotation was full last year for Cincinnati, so the easiest way to get Chapman to the majors was put him in the bullpen. So he switched from starting and went into bullpen in the minors. Same deal like this year. The rotation was full, so Chapman is in the bullpen. Next year he will be in the rotation though, because they did not spend a ton of money on him to be a middle reliever.

He only throws fastballs and sliders. His slider is high 80s/low 90s.

He is working on control right now. He does have 8 walks in 12 innings, but only 4 hits allowed.

Can't throw 104 and pitch for 6-7 innings every 5th day.

    Rod,

There have been guys like this since they invented baseball...

He will never be as good as people think..

    Pitching is an art..(see Halladay)

This guy doesn't have the intangibles to be great..

He's just another Todd Van Poppel...

    Too mechanical..

Soon they will be trying to teach him a sinker, problem is.. If he could throw a sinker he would already be throwing it...

He will be an average player in 3 years from now...

I think he's better fit as a closer eventually. He'll throw his arm out if he has to throw around 90 pitches every fifth day.

probably he would be like francisco liriano. He'd throw 8 of the best starts ever thrown in baseball, blow out his arm and go on the dl for a year and a half, come back and be ok

Got to agree that he shouldn't be rushed in to a starter. He would be a dynamite closer though. Good comparison by CarpeDiem.

he was moved to a reliever because he was struggling as a starter in AAA.

The fact he throws only two pitches and of those two he throws his fastball 75%+ of the time severely limits his ability as a starter. He still cannot throw his slider for a strike consistently and walks way too many to be a starter.

There is no reason to see any arm trouble for him based on his motion, but of course no one really knows exactly why some people have injuries.

He is better suited to become their future closer than a starter
