The action at the 2024 French Open is winding down, and our best sports betting sites are offering Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek as the consensus favorites to win the clay-court tournament at Roland-Garros in Paris.

Just four players remain on either side of the 2024 French Open field, as the cream rises to the top at Roland-Garris in Paris following the quarterfinals.

Carlos Alcaraz remains the clear favorite for the men, especially after Novak Djokovic (knee) withdrew from the tournament following his win on Monday. His absence has provided a bye for Casper Ruud, who will meet Alexander Zverev in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Alcarez will face Jannik Sinner on Friday in the biggest match so far on the men's side of the bracket. For more on that semifinal showdown, check out our Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jannik Sinner prediction.

The biggest upset on Wednesday came on the women's side, as No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka fell to 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva to become the youngest Grand Slam semifinalist since Martina Hingis (1997).

She'll face Jasmine Paolini, who upset No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina, while top remaining seeds Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff will face off in a highly anticipated semifinal clash on Thursday. For more on that match, check out our Iga Swiatek vs. Coco Gauff prediction.

Favorites to win 2024 French Open men's championship

June 4, 2024: Alcaraz, the consensus favorite, has never won the French Open. The world No. 3 was recently ousted in the quarterfinal at the Australian Open, his worst result since Wimbledon in 2022. Alcaraz is on to the quarterfinals where he will face Tsitsipas.

As mentioned, Djokovic is out of the tournament due to a knee injury, and now we have to wait to see when he'll be able to return to action. As a result, Alcaraz and Sinner are in a tier of their own atop the oddsboard. They face each other on Friday.

Favorites to win 2024 French Open women's championship

June 5, 2024: This tournament surely looks like Iga Swiatek's to lose, especially after No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka was stunned in the quarterfinals.

The world No. 1 has won three of her five appearances at the French Open and is a force of nature on clay, with her agility, deft touch, and ability to adapt to the slower surface separating her from everyone else. She's the only player on the men's or women's side trading at minus money to win the tournament.

She's a heavy favorite to beat Coco Gauff on Thursday, and if she takes care of business in the semifinals, she'll similarly be an overwhelming favorite against whomever she might face in the final.

How to bet on French Open odds

Betting on tennis involves predicting the outcomes of various aspects of a match or tournament. Let's explore some popular betting markets along with examples of odds:

  • Match winner: In this market, you bet on which player will win the match. For example, if Novak Djokovic is playing against Rafael Nadal and Djokovic has odds of -150 to win, it means you would need to bet $15 to win $10 if he wins. Conversely, if Nadal has odds of +200, a $10 bet on him would yield a profit of $20 if he wins.
  • Set betting: This market involves predicting the correct scoreline of sets in a match. For instance, if you believe Djokovic will win 3-1 against Nadal, and the odds for that outcome are +300, a $10 bet would result in a $30 profit if your prediction is correct.
  • Over/Under total games: Here, you wager on whether the total number of games played in a match will be Over or Under a set number determined by the sportsbook. If the line is set at 38.5 games and you bet the Over with odds of -110, you would need the match to have 39 or more games to win. Conversely, if you bet the Under with odds of +120, a $10 bet would return $12 in profit if the match has 38 or fewer games.

These are just a few examples of tennis betting markets, but there are many more available, each offering unique opportunities for bettors to capitalize on their knowledge of the sport. As always, it's essential to research players, consider factors like playing surface and recent form, and stay informed about tournament developments to make informed betting decisions.
