In this week's "Are you serious" segment, SBR moderator Justin7 focuses on a recent sportsbook dispute with Betsson (SBR rating C+). A Betsson player claims she had €360 confiscated after being accused of fraud. The player states that Betsson expressed doubts on her gender, citing that her voice was not consistent with a female. Justin expands on the sportsbook's unusual position in the below video report.
Most fraud cases centre on a person not being who they claim to be. Normally, sportsbooks that determine a player is guilty of fraud will point to actionable evidence — a fake birth date, invalid details, fake passport or ID card. Betsson has refunded the player's deposit and voided her winnings on their suspicion alone, and is currently unwilling to discuss the claim with SBR.
On January 18th, 2012, SBR reported that
Betsson confiscated €600 from a poker player. The player admitted to playing against a friend in the poker room. He claimed that the player was legitimate, not a "chip-dump". Chip dumping is the act of colluding with other players, usually to circulate ill-gotten funds or move funds between accounts. Betsson declined to discuss this case with SBR and was downgraded to C+ in the
sportsbook ratings guide.
Betsson players in need of sportsbook assistance are asked to fill out a sportsbook
complaint form. Alternatively, players may reach Sportsbook Review by writing to
help@sportsbookreview.com or dialing 1-830-255-4677 seven days a week during
normal business hours.

YouWin Sportsbook has satisfactorily addressed the outstanding player disputes. SBR reported on January 5th that €14,677 in funds were reported as confiscated by nearly a dozen players. SBR's initial talks with YouWin management were unsuccessful — the company claimed that the players were guilty of fraud, but declined to share specifics. An SBR video report highlighted the claims, which prompted a tenth player report on February 2nd.
Following the exposure of these disputes, a YouWin director reached out to SBR intending to shed more light on the situation. During discussion with SBR, YouWin addressed each of the claims and explained its KYC (know your customer) guidelines. YouWin also disclosed red flags the players' triggered. SBR agreed not to publicly share all of the sportsbook's findings, so as to not compromise anti-fraud controls. At the conclusion of the teleconference with SBR, YouWin clarified that it fully intends to pay all bettors that can produce an international passport and utility bill, subject to the players not being part of any multiple account or affiliate abuse.
SBR advises players to keep ID and utility bills stored on a secure flash drive. Gaming op

SBR is following up with this player to determine his deposit amount and balance history.

After making the profit, the player requested a withdrawal and sent in a copy of his passport. Bet24 approved the ID by e-mail confirmation later that night, but the player says the morning of October 13th his balance was adjusted to €140. Customer service informed the player that his account was linked to other accounts and has been blocked. He was told he could withdraw his deposit at anytime. The player denies being linked to other accounts. SBR is investigating.

On May 28th, a GloBet (SBR rating D+) player requested a withdrawal of £1,190 to his Moneybookers account. His payout has yet to be filled. The same day the player asked for his funds, Globet replied that he must provide proof of age. After sending his passport, no further response was given by Globet. The player has attempted contact throughout July inquiring on the status of his payout, and has been told only generic remarks. This is consistent with the second Globet payout complaint on file with SBR; which Globet has still yet to comment on. SBR will update this report.

Stryyke (SBR rating D-) has declined to directly address the slow-pay complaints reported by SBR readers. Stryyke's last communication to SBR was on May 10th and contained a generic message detailing the Malta based sportsbook's intention to allegedly tighten up security measures in verifying accounts. Stryyke has a process it refers to as a "KCY procedure", that can take several months to complete. Although Stryyke will not reveal exactly what the process it is, it appears to be nothing more than verifying whether a drivers license or passport matches the name and details registered to the betting account. This process typically takes one business day for most sportsbooks to complete.
A new Stryyke slow-pay was received today. A player requested €700 on January 30th and has yet to receive his funds. This brings Stryyke debt to 30 players up to €27,449.85. Unpaid withdrawals were requested as far back as 12 months ago.
Stryyke sportsbook:
We want to inform you and your users that Stryyke has increased and tightened our KYC, fraud and risk management procedures significantly in order to prevent and lower fraudulent and professional betting activities on our platform during the last months. And Stryyke will continue to do so in the future in order to enable safe and secure gaming experience for regular, trusted customers and do fend off the increasing professionalism of fraudulent users.
We are monitoring very carefully bonus abuses, suspicious betting patterns, money laundering, multiple and fake accounts and any other suspicious of fraudulent activities. Any violation of our terms and and/or detection of suspicious actions will lead to immediate exclusion of the platform.
A player deposited €90 into his Oddscompany (unrated) account on March 24th. After increasing his balance to €286.10 he requested a withdrawal to Moneybookers on April 11th. At this point Oddscompany removed all winnings from the player's account and charged an €88.20 processing fee due to his account using the same IP address as another player.
Oddscompany:
As mentioned before we found out that two accounts in our database have used exactly the same IP-adress. The fact that several other factors in these accounts are exactly the same, it was obvious for us that you made a double account. This is according to our GTC’s not allowed. XIII. Supplementary conditions for online bets (Internet bets)
5. Only one registration per user is allowed and the account-keeping and the placement of bets are only on one’s own account. In case of violation, all opened betting accounts of the user will be closed, all placed bets and all movements on the betting accounts will be cancelled. For the cancellation the bookmaker will charge the user € 100,00 for every affected betting account. The payout of possible winnings of the affected betting accounts is not possible.
Therefore we cancelled all your bets and winnings and charged a fee of 88,20 as you had not enough money on your account.
The player informed SBR that upon opening his account he supplied a copy of his passport and debit card to Oddscompany to verify his identity. As for being linked to another IP address, the player has stated that he has placed bets through a university computer. SBR is following up with Oddscompany.

SportsInteraction (SBR rating C-) addresses a sportsbook dispute from June 2007 . In that dispute, SIA closed a player's account for excessive winnings, then accidentally reopened the account. The player went on to win an additional $15,000. SIA canceled the player's winnings which prompted a rating downgrade to D+.
SportsBookReview and SportsInteraction have discussed this dispute over the past two years via hundreds of emails, multiple teleconferences, both with SIA management and with the player. SIA established that the account was being controlled by a third party; a third party whose account was also closed for excessive winnings. The person owning the account in this dispute resided in England, and made deposits and withdrawals from that location. All bets were placed from Canda, despite the account owner spending a majority of time in England while the bets were placed. SIA has proven the account was accessed from an IP address shared by the third party. SIA was able to demonstrate irrefutable connections between the two players. SIA has requested that SBR not disclose its investigative methods to prevent compromising future fraud cases. Once SIA proved that the account was fraudulent, SBR agreed with the decision to confiscate winnings.
SBR's Justin worked the case.
Justin: "SportsInteraction has made great strides in its management, customer service and fraud prevention over the last three years including the implementation of several changes to its rules and procedures recommended by SBR to avoid disputes. This long-outstanding dispute represented the single worst issue I have ever tried to tackle with this sportsbook. Its resolution is a high-point in the massive amount of manpower spent. While the confiscation of winnings on fair bets is never, it was understandable in this situation.”
Case #2.
SIA reverses $1700 winnings confiscation. On October 21st, a player wrote SBR stating that his account was closed and winnings confiscated. SIA demonstrated that in one instance, two accounts made the same wager from the same IP address. The second account was opened at the friend's house, and had no other IP addresses associated with it. SIA noted that while the players were in violation of SIA's terms and conditions by operating two accounts from the same IP, they decided to give the player's the benefit of the doubt in the action not being maliciously taken to circumvent house rules.
Case #3
SIA confiscates €639 citing identity fraud. On August 10th, a
player wrote SBR indicating account closure and funds confiscation. SIA
proved that the passport submitted was forged. The player did not
dispute the finding. SBR agreed with SportsInteraction's decision to
confiscate winnings.
Case #4
SIA confiscates $9000 from player, citing multiple accounts and chargebacks. On November 5th, a player wrote SBR stating that his account was closed and winnings confiscated. Both player and sportsbook agreed on the facts: the account was opened on March 3rd 2009, deposited $750 via ACH; and the account's balance was lost in bets. The player's deposits bounced, resulting in a negative sportsbook balance. In November of 2009, the player proceeded to open an additional account with SIA using his middle name as a last name, and using a different street address. The player won several parlays and increased his balance to roughly $10,000. SBR agreed with SIA's decision to confiscate winnings. SIA's terms and conditions disallow a person from opening multiple accounts. In this instance, the player circumvented the negative figure on his account from his first chargeback, and was a high risk to chargeback a second time should his parlays have lost.
Case #5
SIA reverses $5784 winnings confiscation. On October 27th, a
player wrote SBR indicating his account was closed with his funds
confiscated. SIA originally stated that the player's documents were
forged and suspected that the account was being controlled by a
previously restricted player. The player produced a barrage of
identification documents and cleared his account.
Case #6
SIA confiscates $1167 citing identity fraud. On June 25th, a player wrote SBR stating his account was closed and winnings removed. SIA documented that the person making the deposit was a former player that had outstanding chargebacks with another account. The bank card used to make the deposit was not authorized for use by the account holder. The player submitted a forged bank card image to circumvent this. SBR agreed with SIA's decision to confiscate winnings.

BetsSportsWeb (SBR rating D+) has three slow-pay complaints which have been filed with SBR. Three players are owed a total of $26,435. The oldest payment request was made in August. BetSportsWeb has stated that it would attempt to pay players in installments, but for the past three weeks has not done so. 09.25.2007 (06:26 PM CST)Sportsbook.com Group stands firm on decision to void winning wagersSportsbook.com (SBR rating D+) bettors who had winning bets on the September 9th game between the Indians and the Angels will apparently be cheated out of their funds. After initially crediting players for the win the funds were deducted from accounts due to a misspelling in the abbreviated listing of one of the pitcher's first names. Players have made a legitimate case that the decision is illogical, inconsistent and subjective. Players have reported instances where losing wagers placed on games where the pitchers' names have also been misspelled were not canceled.
Player: FYI, below is a copy of a bet that I made at Sports.com on Sep 18th. You'll notice that it was graded a Loss, rather than a No Action, despite the fact that the pitcher's name was spelled wrong (it was spelled Harahan, and was supposed to be Hanrahan). Now obviously, it's not a major spelling error (only one letter off), and it did not confuse me, and I wouldn't expect the bet to be No Actioned .... however, it does illustrate that their bet cancellations are very subjective (the JefWeaver bet that they cancelled was only one letter different from JerWeaver, similar to this Harahan / Hanrahan bet which they allowed to stand as a Loss).

I was told that what was needed was an IBAN number this I supplied. I still didn't get my cash, another call. This time I was told they needed a SWIFT number. I still didn't get my cash. I have made several phone calls. Every time I am told that I have to speak to a Mr Hall. This Mr Hall is either never in the office or he is in a meeting. Today so far I have made at least 10 calls and I am calling them every 10 to 15 mins. I ask "Is he still in his meeting"? answer yes. I have tried in vain to explain to the lady that answers the phone that a simple £200 withdrawal request should not need "the boss" to organize. Unfortunately she is well versed and all she will say is "I have passed the message on". Anyway this Mr Hall came on the phone I wasn't very polite, I just said I wanted My £200 he said middle of next week. I said I wanted my other £102 as well and he said do the both together. The scam was first documented operating through CypressSportsbook.com. The con artists have opened many sportsbook sites since to perpetuate the scam. Players are brought in through tout sites and are made to feel like they are getting a special deal for large VIP players. The sportsbook then sucks the player for all it can before he or she begins asking for the funds back. The group is known to request the bettor to send Western Union transfers to Poland. Below is an email sent to the player by Executive:

The con artists, previously behind CypressSportsbook (SBR rating F-), CreditSportsbook (SBR rating F-) and LasVegasSportsbookDK (SBR rating F-), are back as SportsbookPayer (SBR rating F-). The scam follows the same course. A tout, this time from NFLfreeWinners.com, establishes a relationship with gamblers before referring his new clients to a sportsbook. The so-called sportsbook is established for the sole purpose of facilitating the con. The tout then promises players betting credit or the ability to invest in syndicate guaranteed plays. Players are eventually asked to Western Union funds to Poland. History suggests SportsbookPayer.com will be off-line shortly and the handicapper phone numbers will soon be disconnected. All of the victims were asked to Western Union their funds to a Yosef Levine in Poland. View past reports on these conmen.

Once the player has sent money the scammers bill the player for additional "fees" and new "administrative costs" until the player has finally had enough and refuses to send additional funds. As was the case with Cypress Sportsbook, the players have sent funds via Western Union to a Yosef Levine. Recipient names also included Eva Rowinska; both were collected in Poland. Randy Levine was the recipient of a bank wire.
Players should use caution when utilizing Western Union due to its anonymous nature. Read about similar Western Union scams here.
