What is Teaser Betting?
Teaser wagering is one of the most popular ways of betting American football as it increases the likelihood an individual side will cover a point spread or total by adding points in your favor.
For instance, if a team is favored by ten points, by adding that game into a conventional teaser you can shave off six points and reduce the spread to -4. A minimum of two teams must be added to a valid teaser.
The most popular form of betting teasers among sharp sports bettors is known as a "Wong" teaser, as noted gambling author Stanford Wong called for teasing home favorites of 6.5 to 8.5 points in his book "Sharp Sports Betting", and teasing home underdogs ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 points.
The preferred method of wonging is a standard 6-point teaser. In the glory days of the online sports betting industry, when players could expect to receive a large sportsbook bonus on top of reduced juice, a two team 6-point Wong teaser paid out at even money. The average nowadays for this teaser is -110, so $110 to win $100.
Sportsbooks that offer what's known as a "super teaser" or a teaser greater than 10 points increase the likelihood that an individual teaser leg will cash, however players have to include a minimum of three teams in a 10 point teaser.
