Report: PokerStars receives sports betting license in Ireland
PokerStars has received a sports betting license in Ireland, according to a report released earlier today at iGaming Business.
PokerStars, owned by Amaya Inc, was granted the license by the Irish Revenue Commissioners national regulatory division. PokerStars will be under obligation to pay the requisite number of taxes.
Ireland based players will access the poker client as normal with no changes in setup.
It has been reported that PokerStars will begin with offering 18 sports, though ponies bettors will not have a racebook to call home in the initial release.
PokerStars' managing director of sports betting Stephen Fisk had the following to say concerning this news:
"Our operation of poker, casino games, and now sports betting shows that players trust us to deliver a variety of games in a fun and exciting way. We look forward to building on this by operating under this new licence.”
PokerStars was founded in September of 2001. The company has approximately 50 million registered users and is the largest online poker website in the world.
