PokerStars going all in for NJ casino, SBR iGaming News
Sportsbook Review.com provides an SBR iGaming News update for Friday, January 19th, 2013. Topics in today's show include the recently reported news of PokerStars intentions to purchase the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, as well as three new gaming operator licenses from the Northern German State of Schleswig-Holstein, and more.
The Northern German State of Schleswig-Holstein has handed out three sports betting licenses to Jaxx, Sportingbet, and Primebet International. Currently there are 18 operators licensed in Schleswig-Holstein. Sportingbet’s license will be operated under subsidiary Spread Your Wings Germany Ltd, whilst Jax’ license will be operated under MyBet.
SBR reported on July the 27th that the Schleswig-Holstein licenses were an endangered species, as the new political party in control intends to rejoin the states controversial Interstate Gambling Treaty, which is already adopted by other German states. EGR reports that the Minister of the Interior Andreas Breitner made mention of this fact, but stated it still must complete the work of the Christian Democratic Union Gov., which signed gaming legislation bill into law back in 2011.
PokerStars is no stranger to iGaming headlines. Fresh off their settlement with the US Department of Justice, PokerStars intends to purchase an Atlantic City Casino—though this deal is subject to approval by New Jersey regulators. The Atlantic Club Casino is the company PokerStars is eying, and for good reason, the Casino at this time is not the biggest cash cow in Atlantic City, in fact ranking 10th of the 12 casinos in gross annual revenue, but Poker Stars believes it can turn the tide around. And would you really bet against them?
Seemingly everything PokerStars touches turns to gold. The world’s largest poker room picked Full Tilt Poker off the mat and restored respectable liquidity to the tables, and managed to play its cards with the DOJ good enough such that it admitted no wrongdoing in its Black Friday indictment.
A statement released by Atlantic Club COO Michael Fawley and PokerStars' Head of Corporate Communications Eric Hollreiser reads as follows: "The acquisition of The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel will secure up to 2,000 jobs and maintain the economic benefits the casino brings to New Jersey," began the statement. "During this interim period, the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel will operate as normal under current management, which will be retained following completion of the acquisition."
Scientific Games has struck a two-year deal to power the Iowa Lottery Authority with instant ticket games. Scientific Games is a New York based lottery technology provider. Chief Marketing Officer Jim Kennedy stated that the Iowa Lottery is well recognized as one of the most innovative in the United States, with nearly $200 million in sales in instant ticket games alone.
