Marathonbet Sportsbook (SBR rating B) has been in business since 1997. Marathonbet was added to the SBR sportsbook ratings guide in November of 2012. The online sportsbook operates two gaming licenses; their .com website is registered in the Netherlands Antilles in Curacao, while their .co.uk license with the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC). Marathonbet operates three land based betting shops in the United Kingdom located at Earle Street Crewe, Broad Street Crewe, and South Ashford.
Marathonbet players have submitted mixed feedback. High points include the number of obscure wagering markets on offer such as chess, darts, handball, hurling, and sumo; but low points are registered on extended verification or Know Your Customer (KYC) waiting times. The KYC process must be completed before a payout can be made. Online sportsbooks are required to perform this process to comply with guidelines set by gaming regulators and in-house terms and conditions. If a sportsbook chose not to perform KYC, fraud would skyrocket and processing costs would eventually be passed on to legitimate users. The average time of account validation has been approximately two weeks according to the player complaints filed with SBR. Management has addressed sportsbook complaints with SBR. Most recently, a batch of sportsbook complaints were filed by users based in Greece that claimed their deposits were refunded and a percentage of winnings confiscated. These cases are ongoing.
Marathonbet presently offers 26 funding and payment options in their online cashier. These methods include Skrill (availability subject to region, withdrawal from Canada for gaming on 1/2/2014), Neteller, bank transfer, WebMoney, as well as a host of other international methods. Marathonbet does not accept players residing in the US. As for customer service, Marathonbet has a Live Chat service, phone, and email support.
Marathonbet is presently a sponsor of three football clubs and management tells SBR they are soon to announce the sponsorship of a club in the English Premier League. Marathonbet users with sportsbook feedback to share are encouraged to write to SBR via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
