MarathonBet account dispute update
MarathonBet (SBR rating B) management have shared evidence collected concerning the €10,000 account dispute filed by a player 8 January 2014. While MarathonBet has requested that the exact information not be disclosed so as to not compromise security, SBR has confirmed that the player in question provided documents unsuitable to pass the sportsbook's KYC process.
The player originally deposited €2,100 to MarathonBet on November 3 across three credit card transactions. His first all-in wager was successful and he immediately requested and was paid his deposit back to the card. He then requested to be paid the remainder of his balance (€10,290) via bank transfer.
The player provided a series of documents to MarathonBet to proceed with account verification. MarathonBet was able to determine forgery through these documents as well as association with other users that shared certain similarities with the player. SBR has agreed not to disclose the totality of the evidence collected.
The nature of the scam is one commonly seen in the industry. To avoid providing a blueprint for would-be violators, SBR will not go into further detail.
MarathonBet has been active in discussing individual cases with SBR and was transparent with their findings involving this dispute. MarathonBet has four betting shops in the United Kingdom licenced by the UK Gambling Commission, and was the shirt sponsor for EPL club Fulham in 2013.
