Industry legend "The Greek" receives one year probation
Spiros "The Greek" Athanas has been sentenced to one year probation on three counts of aiding and abetting a gambling enterprise and transmission of wagering information, for his involvement with now defunct Legends Sports.
Each count carries a sentence of one year's probation, though the probation will run concurrently.
Athanas pled guilty to the charges against him. He is best known for founding popular sportsbook The Greek.
As far as his probation guidelines, the judge has ordered that he shall not possess a firearm nor leave the judicial district without the permission of the court or his probation officer.
He will be required to check in with his probation officer in a manner to be directed by the court.
Athanas was spared community service. He has been ordered to not enter, frequent, or be involved with any "illegal gambling establishment or activity". He must disclose all assets and liabilities to his probation officer, and will be required to clear any transfers of funds or assets without the consent of his probation officer.
The owner of Legends Sports, Bartice "Luke" King, was acquitted on a racketeering (RICO) charge and convicted on two counts of money laundering and running an illegal gambling business. King awaits sentencing.
