iGaming News Show: David Stern to Speak on Legal Sports Betting
Sportsbook Review's Natalie Rydstrom reports on the latest news that former NBA top dog David Stern will be speaking on behalf of the motion to legalize sports betting across the United States.
Stern's speech is scheduled for September 29 at the upcoming Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas.
American Gaming Association (AGA) CEO Geoff Freeeman will also be speaking.
The motion for a regulated, legal sports betting industry across the US suffered a temporary setback earlier in the week when an appeals court ruled against the state of New Jersey in their bid for Atlantic City sportsbooks.
New Jerseyans must now hope that the nation's highest court will decide to hear the case and ultimately repeal the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA), which limits states outside of Nevada, Delaware, Oregon, and Montana from accepting bets on the outcome of sporting events.
Until there is a nationwide reform of the outdated legislation pertaining to placing sports bets, Americans are left with online sportsbooks operating outside of the United States, which includes companies on shaky financial standing and that have fleeced players out of millions in winnings; these betting sites are indexed on the sportsbook scam list.
