Coral Sportsbook Warned by UK Advertising Agency over Tweet
Online and land based sportsbook Coral (SBR rating B+) was flogged by the UK's Advertising Standards Agency over a social media tweet that was determined to violate rules pertaining to marketing advertisements.
A tweet released by Coral back in April highlighted a special offer on Real Madrid's match with Manchester City during UEFA Champions League play.
Coral was formally warned by the ASA after a complaint was made over the tweet's language. The tweet implied that the bet was without risk by stating that it was "the easiest £40 you'll make this week", according to a report at iGaming Business.
Coral mounted the defense that it was implied that Real Madrid were favorites in the match and as such there was an inherent risk of the favorite losing. The ASA warned the operator that the ad must not reappear using that sort of language, and that language in general pertaining to free bets must be much clearer.
Sportsbook Review reported earlier this summer that across the pond in Australia Bet365 was saddled with a $2.75 million fee by a local court over allegedly misleading free bet advertisements.
