Bitcoin market watch: Which major sportsbooks support BTC?

Bitcoin (BTC) topped out at $445.16 during November and closed the month at $377.12.

The anonymous cryptocurrency is surging in popularity despite its swings in value as retailers, investors, and the media keep bitcoin relevant and in the mainstream. Online sportsbooks are also capitalizing off the mania by integrating bitcoin into their online cashiers.

Sportsbook Review.com assembled a bitcoin guide earlier this year which offers information on betting sites that accept the currency.

The two most prominent gaming sites to support bitcoin are 5Dimes Sportsbook (SBR rating A+) and Heritage Sports (SBR rating A), though wagering is in USD at each.

The guide also lists exclusive bitcoin shops such as Nitrogen Sports (SBR rating B) - the first such site to hold an SBR rating - and breaks down transaction cost, time, location of each website server, and the number of years online. At this time, bitcoin casinos that do not offer sports bets are not included.

One challenge bitcoin faces as it relates to gaining steam in the sports betting community are the rapid shifts in value. The below chart, powered by Coindesk, shows the fluctuation of BTC over the last three months:

Due to these shifts in value, bettors are not advised to keep their balances tied up in an account as is made necessary by the cost associated with moving funds at most sportsbooks. Not only is bitcoin subject to market movement which can work for or against a players bankroll, many of even the most popular BTC websites have not even been online for three years.

Sportsbook Review will continue to provide bitcoin coverage and track the the betting sites that support the cryptocurrency.
