Betfair acquires Blue Square sportsbook
Betfair Sportsbook (SBR rating A-) has acquired Blue Square Bet (SBR rating B+) online for £5 million. Blue Square customers will be automatically redirected upon log-in to their new accounts at BetFair. Betfair gains approximately 120,000 new customers as well as brand assets; the deal does not include employees or technology.
Blue Square was previously operated by the Rank Group, a company with a significant land-based gaming presence across the UK.
Betfair.com statement: “The acquisition is consistent with Betfair’s strategy of focusing on regulated markets and growing its sportsbook and gaming operations alongside the exchange."
Blue Square announced the news this morning to their customers via email. Part of that email read: "We have some important information regarding your Blue Square Bet account. Please take a moment to read through it carefully. As of today, 2nd April 2013, you will no longer be able to bet with Blue Square Bet as we have transferred accounts to Betfair.
We would like to assure you that all funds are perfectly safe and secure. Any unsettled bets will be honoured and settled by Betfair."
