We’re down to the last eight of the Europa League and that means (as any football match does) that your Humble Handicapper is looking to make more profit (for his wife) and Olympique Lyonnais vs Juventus is his next money spinning soccer match.
The Italian champions Juventus are bidding to
become the third team to contest the final at their home stadium, (the others
being Feyenoord in 2002-03 and Sporting Lisbon in 2004-05) fact fans but their
first hurdle is French side Olympique Lyonnais. The odds on Juventus winning
the final are 5/4, and that makes them the bookies favourite. Second favourite
Benfica look to be longer shots by comparison at 3/1 but Lyon are way down in 7th
favourite place (that’s the penultimate position) out on 25/1.
These sides last faced off back in July 2010, but
that was a mere club friendly. Back them Juventus came out 2-1 winners, even if
they did have to come from behind.
Enough with the friendly meetings…WHERE’S THE MONEY
The soccer odds makers are looking ahead and they already have
Juventus at 1/7 to win the second leg,
the leg that they play at home and they have the shortest correct score odds
(in that game) on the game going Under 2.5 goals at 1/100 and the game going Over
2.5 at 1/14. Read into that what you will, but I reckond
that will be because Juventus will have a commanding lead after the first leg,
and the result will be a done deal.

At time of press Juventus have won four of their
last five games, but only managed to find the back of the net more than once on
one of those matches. Juventus were on a good run, keeping clean sheets with
three back to back to back clean sheets in three away games, but first at home
against Parma and then away to Napoli the goals came in.
Still you can pick up best soccer odds of Juventus
winning to nil at 7/4 (worth a bet). Lyon winning to nil is at 8/1, which in my
book tells you who will come out on top.
Olympique Lyonnais have won just two of their last
five games and more tellingly have lost the other three.
Therefore, let’s take a look at the basics in their
first leg match against Juventus before locking in your soccer picks. Juventus winning is at 4/6, a draw is at 11/4
and a yin win is at 4/1. Not massive odds but I just can’t see the home side
coming out on top. The bookies have the shortest correct score odds on Juventus
winning 1-0 at 5/1, but the odds on Lyon winning (coincidentally by the same
score) run as high as 13/1.
Long story short if Lyon are going to qualify they
at going to win at home, and the bookies have Lyon
qualifying at 4/1.
