Unibet to acquire BetchoiceUnibet (SBR rating B-) Sportsbook has signed an agreement to acquire Betchoice. Unibet will enter the regulated Australian betting market. Unibet's acquisition price is £13.6 million; the deal, which transfers 100% of Betchoice Corporation Pty Ltd.'s shares, is said not to contain any liabilities. Completion of the deal is still subject to approval by the Northern Territory regulator; this process is expected to be completed before the end of Q2 2012.
Unibet intends to completely rebrand BetChoice to Unibet following what they refer to as a "short transition period". Unibet CEO Henrik Tjärnström spoke of the acquisition in an official company press release distributed this morning.
Unibet CEO Henrik Tjärnström: “This strategic acquisition gives Unibet immediate access to the regulated Australian market, which is currently open to sports betting and horse racing. We intend to rebrand the business quickly to Unibet. Betchoice already has a strong offering and market position in horse racing and through Kambi, Unibet has the opportunity to enhance the quality and performance of Betchoice’s sports betting offering and so to deliver revenue growth and margin improvements... In addition to benefit from the already existing Australian product offering, the acquisition of Betchoice will provide Unibet with a platform to facilitate other gambling services and opportunities should market conditions continue to improve.”
SBR expects Unibet to refine its standards of enforcing house rules as they enter a regulated Australian market. Though Unibet is licensed by the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) of
malta; SBR has found that operators prefer
malta for its lax positions on player disputes and the ease of setting up shop. Unibet's operating procedure has until this point been to cut off communications with a player determined to be in violation of house rules, and has not been willing to fully satisfy SBR's inquiries in regards to player confiscations, such as in this
sportsbook dispute reported in December of 2011.
SBR will attempt to revisit outstanding claims with Unibet, hoping that the company's recent good news will compel it to more satisfactorily address player disputes. |

Sportsbook.com (SBR rating D-) non-US players update.
SBR has spoken with one of the
Sportsbook.com non-US managers, who also manages the YouWin (SBR rating D-) brand, concerning the news that players who were transferred over to Global.Sportsbook.com once the non-US brand moved to
malta would lose their futures wagers. The manager told Sportsbook Review that the decision was made to extend players a conditional offer to have their futures bets restored. Players with canceled futures are asked to contact SBR immediately, either through
sportsbook complaint form or by writing directly to help@sportsbookreview.com.
On September 28th, SBR reported that
Sportsbook.com redirected its entire non-US player base to register at new website, Global.Sportsbook.com. Sportsbook.com will continue to manage its US players from Costa Rica, while the non-US arm will be operated out of
malta. Sportsbook.com Non-US is licensed under
Win United Ltd., the gaming company which powers
YouWin Sportsbook. WinUnited Ltd is licensed to operate as a gaming company by the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) of
malta.
In typical Sportsbook.com fashion, the controversial gaming company announced to non-US players via email that their pending wagers would not be honored. The decision sparked outrage amongst players, as did the announcement that cash bonuses would also be forfeited if a withdrawal was requested within 60 days of the new player accounts creation.
During its long email to players, Sportsbook.com also claimed that it would round up currency conversion so that accounts in dollars would receive more than what the exchange rate dictates. However, on September 30th a player filed a sportsbook complaint through SBR indicating that he believes to be shorted $1,700 after having the transfer made to his new account. The player held a balance of $10,700 at Sportsbook.com. SBR is following up on this player's claim with management, and asks players with similar complaints to
contact SBR.

Sportsbook.com moves non-US players to Global.Sportsbook.comSportsbook.com (SBR rating D-) is now redirecting non-US players to Global.Sportsbook.com. Sportsbook.com (ag) fired off an email this morning advising players that their accounts would be moved to the new,
malta-based platform. Global.Sportsbook.com is officially part of
WinUnited Ltd., a gaming company licensed by the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) of
malta. WinUnited Ltd. is most known for powering YouWin sportsbook (SBR rating D-). A Sportsbook.com (ag) manager confirmed to SBR that US-based players are not impacted by the move.
In its 1,000+ word email to international players, the sportsbook declared that rollovers would be waived on outstanding bonus cash with the condition that players not request payment for sixty days. If a player requests payment prior to then, he would be forfeiting the bonus amount entirely. The sportsbook is essentially holding players funds hostage and forcing them to sit on their balances without losing their earned bonus cash. The email went on to state that pending wagers would not be honored. The unethical decision to void player wagers is one of many the Sportsbook.com Group has made over years, along with debiting $150,000+ in
correlated parlay winnings from players five years ago.
Feedback from Sportsbook.com's non-US players
A
Sportsbook.com
(ag) player based in Canada wrote SBR today with concerns over his
$2,070 balance. The player attempted to log into his account this
morning and found that it was disabled. The player was told that as a
non-US resident, he would have to log into the new Global.Sportsbook.com
site to register an account, and then be transferred his funds. The
player points out that in addition to his balance, he has two pending
wagers for a total of $500. The player wagered $300 last December on the
Philadelphia Phillies to win the World Series at 6/1, and another on
the Texas Rangers to win the ALCS at 4.5/1.
SBR received an
additional complaint from a player that stated that he was told his
account would be enabled with his funds available eight hours ago. After
the time-frame passed, the player reached out to SBR. SBR is asking

TowerGaming, OddsMatrix report
TowerGaming (SBR rating D+) has been added to the
sportsbook ratings guide.
TowerGaming is a licensee on the OddsMatrix platform.
OddsMatrix fully supports TowerGaming; powering their software and holding player funds in reserve. The COO of OddsMatrix confirmed the business relationship in a letter to SBR.
Jesper Jensen, OddsMatrix COO: Our relationship to TowerGaming is very good and they have competent people to run the business.
How the white-label platform controls player funds:
Jesper Jensen, OddsMatrix COO: As players are betting with OddsMatrix, we are in control of player funds residing in the sports book. If any of our licensees fails/dies, we are responsible to payout these players. This can only be done if the funds reside physically in the sports book balance. If funds are moved away, e.g. to main balance, poker- or casino balance, it is out of our control. As stated above, players are paid by OddsMatrix, but only if the licensee of OddsMatrix goes bankrupt. We are not doing day-to-day payment processing.
The last
malta-based sportsbook to use the OddsMatrix platform was
BetOnBet (SBR rating F). OddsMatrix claimed at the time that only software was provided to BetOnBet. BetOnBet's processing was reportedly done by the Linx Media Group. Both

Stryyke confiscates €750 from playerStryyke (SBR rating D-) has confiscated €750 from a player claiming the player was guilty of "fraudulent activity on (his) betting account".
Stryyke initially froze the account and requested the player provide a copy of his ID; he immediately complied. Stryyke then informed the player, after receiving the documents confirming his identity, that his account would remain closed and that the decision was final. No explanation was provided to the player on what constituted the alleged "fraudulent activity" and what entitled Stryyke to confiscate the entirety of his balance. This is not the first time Stryyke has cited its terms and conditions to justify theft, as on April 22th the
malta-based sportsbook suspended all bets on an NBA wager claiming that there were suspicious wagering patterns on the game. SBR is following up with Stryyke management.

Stryyke management fails to address slow-paysStryyke (SBR rating D-) has declined to directly address the
slow-pay complaints reported by SBR readers. Stryyke's last communication to SBR was on May 10th and contained a generic message detailing the
malta based sportsbook's intention to allegedly tighten up security measures in verifying accounts.
Stryyke has a process it refers to as a "KCY procedure", that can take several months to complete. Although Stryyke will not reveal exactly what the process it is, it appears to be nothing more than verifying whether a drivers license or passport matches the name and details registered to the betting account. This process typically takes one business day for most sportsbooks to complete.
A new Stryyke slow-pay was received today. A player requested €700 on January 30th and has yet to receive his funds. This brings Stryyke debt to 30 players up to €27,449.85. Unpaid withdrawals were requested as far back as 12 months ago.
Stryyke sportsbook: We want to inform you and your users that Stryyke has increased and tightened our KYC, fraud and risk management procedures significantly in order to prevent and lower fraudulent and professional betting activities on our platform during the last months. And Stryyke will continue to do so in the future in order to enable safe and secure gaming experience for regular, trusted customers and do fend off the increasing professionalism of fraudulent users.
We are monitoring very carefully bonus abuses, suspicious betting patterns, money laundering, multiple and fake accounts and any other suspicious of fraudulent activities. Any violation of our terms and and/or detection of suspicious actions will lead to immediate exclusion of the platform.

Stryyke management discusses outstanding slowpay cases with SBRStryyke (SBR rating D) has discussed the status of outstanding slowpay complaints with SBR. The sportsbook is based in
malta and claims that due to
malta imposed regulations rigorous checks of players accounts must be complete prior to their first payout. The industry standard in verifying a players identity is one to two business days; some Stryyke players have waited months for payment.
Stryyke has attributed the payment delays and length of account verification to the size of their staff. SBR asks that Stryyke updates its website with a revised payment timeline and notate the delays involved until the "KCY" procedure is complete. While Stryyke has shaved down the number of their slowpay complaints, new reports have steadily trickled in. SBR last

WauGaming.com:
Dear Wauw user, For a while we’ve known that we’d need more invested capital into our company in order to reach Break Even on our current activities. Unfortunately we haven’t succeeded in raising the necessary investor capital, and thus we’ve decided to close down our business. The total amount due to our customers, meaning also your balance/funds if relevant, are to a large extend secured via the demand by the Maltese Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) for separation of company funds and customer/user funds. Some of these funds are kept as reserves at 3rd parties for up to 9 months though and thus we’re not able to pay everybody’s full balance straight away. We’ll cooperate fully with the LGA in order to try and find a solution securing that everybody will have their funds paid as soon as possible. We’ll give further information on the homepage and by email when relevant. We’re very sorry for the inconveniences brought on you by this, but hope you’ll understand that we’re doing everything possible in order to try and satisfy all involved parties in this difficult situation. Kind regards, Wauw Gaming

BetChance (SBR rating F) sends a "client contract" to owed players saying they will provide payment within 20 months and asks the player to agree he/she will not sue the gaming company. Players should ask the sportsbook if it intends to steal account balances if this agreement is not signed under duress. The agreement gives the sportsbook reassurance that the player does not intend to pursue the sportsbook and meaninglessly suggests that by signing it, the player has waived the right to pursue funds. BetChance previously offered 30% (now 25%) or payment in full within 15 months. in 2007 players agreed to payment plans which were not honored. SBR will contact
malta Gaming authorities to ask if the latest BetChance payment promise is the result of influence of the regulating body.

BetChance (SBR rating F) deactivates accounts; continues emailing to players with take-it-or-leave-it settlement offer
BetChance is no longer pretending to take bets or allowing players to look at their balance. The book's homepage gives players' the message that the "operation is suspended for technical problems" and it "apologizes for any inconvenient.." The malta-licensed sportsbook baited players with large deposit bonuses and advantageous lines and pricing. Some players have been pursuing their funds from BetChance for nearly one year. History suggests, despite what BetChance offers or arranges with players, the book will continue to stall and will not pay. Multiple players have stated that their opinion is the book will only pay if somehow leveraged to do so by The Lotteries and Gaming Authority of malta and will hold out hope for their full balance. The LGA issued small payments to players on behalf of no-pay sportsbook Playbanks in March, months after the book had closed.

BetChance (SBR rating F) player reports that the sportsbook informed him it will finally close
The player states the no-pay sportsbook called to offer him a settlement of 25% of his balance or the possibility of being paid in 20 months. BetChance has been unable to clear delinquent withdrawal requests for almost a year while teasing owed users with email updates about new ownership and small sporadic payments to a fortunate few. Most players do not expect to see any of their funds and now believe the empty promises and positive updates were part of the scam to remain operational in malta while collecting from new depositors.

BetChance (not rated) receives poor reviews from SBR readers
BetChance users complain of slow-pays, including Moneybookers withdrawals, taking well beyond the stated five days and delayed ACH payments; voided winning wagers, including bets that were placed two days before the event on lines not considered to be erroneous; and taking two to three days to grade some wagers. Most players tell SBR they were attracted to the
malta-based bookmaker by their opinionated
betting odds. Players should consider heavily opinionated lines from low-volume or new bookmakers a reason to be cautious and a sign that the sportsbook may be gambling.
One of two player reports on voided winning bet: After the Result of a Tallinn win they said they were consulting management to make a decision on what to do with the Bets. They have since Voided the Bets, but have poor reasons. They said incorrect Odds. however odds were High with Bluesq and Coral, both of which have Paid out and honoured the bets. Betchance actually Cut their Odds on the 17th, where I placed further bets. They have only acted because the Bets I placed have won and wont pay me Winnings. Betchance had two days from me placing my Bets til the Event happened, and did not Act before the Game!
One of four bettors to report BetChance slow-pay: Betchance now informed me last Friday that the bank (their bank) had blocked the payment, and asked whether I would agree to a different payment plan. This I did, but it appears Betchance have already broken their latest promise again. They had confirmed they would pay me £1,400 by Moneybookers today (this is the payment I requested on July 13), but it is now end of business and I have received nothing. They have also promised to send me £4,000 (instead of £8,000) by bank transfer today, and that I can withdraw the remainder of my money by Moneybookers in instalments of £1,000 per day.I was asked to agree to this payment plan since I was told they have a lot of withdrawal requests and they would like to spread out the money amongst their customers. I believe my agreement to their request was reasonable, but I still remain highly sceptical about the sincerety of Betchance until I have received my money from Betchance.
