SBR Reader: SBR, What are the best sportsbooks for baseball? Which sportsbook has the best dimeline?

SportsbookReview has updated the Best Baseball Lines page which now includes Intertops (SBR rating B+). Intertops managed to make the list with a 10 cent line breaking at -140. The latest update is to Betjamaica's listing. The sportsbook, which offers a 10 cent line up to -190, will add 5 inning lines as well as reverse run-lines for the 2008 season. SBR will soon list pricing information for exchange-style sportsbooks.

Peter: So where's most of the money coming in? I've been hearing a figure of 80% on the Giants all week long. Does that square with what you're seeing?

Betjamaica: So far we have approximately 65% early Giant money which is often the case for early dog wagering on such a public marquee game.

Bookmaker: I’d say closer to 60% so far on the Giants for us. The Super Bowl with a line of +12 is great value and will always attract money, but I’m sure there will be more than enough bet on New England up until kickoff.

Betjamaica (SBR rating A+) and The Greek Sportsbook (SBR rating A+) bracing for category 5 Hurricane Dean. The hurricane is expected to hit the island on Sunday. Betjamaica will switch to backup numbers once winds surpass 50 MPH. Players will be able to use 877-906-5666 for wagering and 877-906-3730 for banking and customer services. Bettors who have difficulty reaching TheGreek should use 1-800-310-8755. Although the sportsbooks will remain staffed and in operation during the storm players should be prepared for website downtime.

BetMania (SBR rating D+) once again arbitrarily cancels wagers
The player was allowed to place online wagers on opposing teams. After the event was over the bettor was informed that the winning wagers, the second set of bets, were canceled because of an unlisted rule. The player is told that the sportsbook does not allow middle attempts. However, BetMania has allowed players to buy back a position when the odds do not move in the bettor's favor. SBR will contact the sportsbook on player's behalf.

Player: Yesterday afternoon I placed two arena football wagers, NY +1.5 and Grand Rapids +12 at $250 each. Both won last night, but I awoke this morning to find out they were cancelled. The reason stated was that Betmania does not permit middling and I had bet the other side of these games two days earlier. Well, no where does it state in their rules about this absurd restriction, but Victor (wager manager) claims it is an "unwritten rule" (what?). He also says that the bets were cancelled before the games went off which I have no way of knowing if it's true. Fact is I could have made my offsets at Betjamaica and Skybook at that exact same lines, had I known about this apparent rule. Bottom line is that these were legit bets, not error lines, so they should stand. As such, Betmania owes me $500, and I am asking your help in getting it. Victor refuses to budge on this matter, and he is so wrong.

SBR Bill Dozer reports: Betjamaica(SBR rating A+) adds new backup equipment, which includes two additional operating system backup hard drives, to eliminate the potential for extended downtime caused by hardware failure. Although the potential for down-time exists with any website, BetJam’s newest safeguards should minimize the effect on the user and help the sportsbook maintain its reputation of having one of the most reliable sportsbook websites. BetJamica’s A+ rating has been reinstated.

SBR Bill Dozer reports: Betjamaica offering $25 free-play to players who were inconvenienced by yesterday’s downtime. Players must have had a balance prior to the website going off-line to qualify for the offer. Betjamaica has been downgraded from A+ to A, as the book takes steps to assure hardware failure will not be responsible for extended downtime and regain A+ status. BetJam’s website consistently scores as one of the highest in performance and assures us and players that this was an isolated incident.

SBR surveys three top sportsbooks on how they did with the 2004 baseball season:

Pinnacle(SBR rating A+): Baseball was good this year. There was one stretch just after the all-star break that I think the players were using tomorrows paper to pick the games....players were feasting on under valued favorites. Overall, this has been an excellent baseball season, probably the best ever, for Pinnacle.
 
VIP (SBR rating A+): This year broke character with the last four years. In the previous few years, players won early and won big. This year the book had a good start but the players roared back with a vengeance in the final 1/3 of the season. VIP added 1st inning and first 5 inning props as well as others and overall I think this was a decent year for us in baseball, certainly not great.
 
Betjamaica(SBR rating A+): Baseball was definitely better this year than last; we got off to a very strong start, an amazing start. The players got it together in late August and have been winning most of the big decisions ever since. So for Betjamaica this has been a terrific baseball season. We handled the professional crowd but the general public hit a lot of big games down the stretch.

Betjamaica (SBR rating A+) nearing 1st year anniversary and a lock to be the most successful launch of a new sportsbook in many years. Combine the financial strength of Olympic with the customer service skills of Betjamaica's top man, Scotty Johnson, the final result is a sportsbook that players really enjoy. From the three upstarts from 2003, BetPanAm (SBR rating F-) has failed, BetOnGames (SBR rating A-) has done very well but Betjamaica has seen much higher volume and is the clear winner from the three promising entries of 2003.
