SBR analyst Natalie Rydström gives an SBR iGaming News video update for Friday, September 14th, 2012. Today's video focuses on an update from California State Senator Roderick Wright on the senate bill he is attempting to pass; the pending closure of the IGT Poker Network, as well as European focused news.
California State Senator Roderick Wright plans to keep fighting to advance his online gambling senate bill #1463. Unfortunately the bill did not gain the necessary support before the legislative deadline of August 31st. Keenly opposed to the bill are most Native Americans, as was expected. Despite the mounting opposition, which includes the California Online Poker Association which consists of 29 tribes and 31 cardrooms, Wright is confident that the senate bill will be reintroduced in January. A report by EGR quoted Senator Wright as saying the following:
“Fear is a very difficult emotion to overcome. I’ve had agreements three or four times but they have fallen apart. But if federal government makes any modifications to intrastate online gambling law then we will all feel very stupid as our opportunity to compete will have gone.”
The IGT Poker network closure is reportedly scheduled for December. The operators using the poker network must shop for a new home; as the network will be permanently off-line on December the 11th. Operators such as BetVictor have already relaunched elswhere, making the move to the MicroGaming network. BetVictor poker was previously offered on Playtech’s iPoker network. IGT poker skin iGame told the following to PokerUpdate: “Finalized an agreement with one of the world's leading poker networks to join [its] poker platform.”
