Betway (SBR rating D-) has confiscated £730 in player winnings. Betway is enforcing an unethical "gotcha" rule to strip players of their winnings. The Malta-licenced organisation has fleeced players out of £7,244 to date. The Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) of Malta has notoriously stood back whilst operators conned players. Betway is on SBR's sportsbook blacklist.
On May 6th, the player registered with Betway.com and deposited £25. The player states that a bonus of £25 was issued on top of his deposit. A Betway live chat operator informed him of the promo terms — a 15X rollover was required. The player believed he was all set and began wagering.
Wagering history of player:
His first wager was €50 on Wigan to beat Blackburn at the odds of 2.90. The bet was settled on May 7th, returning £145.
His second wager was placed for £100 on Liverpool to beat Chelsea at odds of 2.40. The bet was settled on May 8th, returning £240.
His third wager was for £285 on the over 2.5 goals in the Universidad de Chile vs Deportivo Quito football match at odds of 1.60. The bet was settled on May 11th, returning £456.
On May 14th, the player wagered £315 on Cercle Brugge to beat Mons at odds of 1.95. The bet won and returned £614.25.
At this point, the player wagered a total of £750 as instructed by the wagering requirement. His total balance was £755.25. The player attempted to withdraw his funds, but was greeted by an email that delivered gut-wrenching news: he wouldn't be paid a red cent.
Betway drops hammer
Betway told the player that he was guilty of wagering in excess of 30% of his bonus cash amount. The bizarre explanation once again was given and used as a means of avoiding paying a player. The player would receive his £25 deposit back and nothing more.
Betway: "Following a review of your account, we have identified that you are in breach of the casino’s standard Terms. Please refer specifically to the following clause:
Before any withdrawals are processed, your play will be reviewed for any irregular playing patterns. In the interests of fair gaming, equal, zero or low margin bets or hedge betting, shall all be considered irregular gaming for bonus play-through requirement purposes. Other examples of irregular game play include but are not limited to, placing single bets equal to or in excess of 30% or more of the value of the bonus credited to their account until such time as the wagering requirements for that bonus have been met. Should the Casino deem that irregular game play has occurred, the Casino reserves the right to withhold any withdrawals and/or confiscate all winnings."
SBR has advised the player to file a complaint with the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) of Malta. Betway no longer discusses player claims with SBR.
