Betway (SBR rating D-) is not honouring a Champions League promotion. Betway ran a special that promised "money back" on select prop bets on the football championship held May 19, 2012. If Chelsea striker Didier Drogba recorded a goal: losing wagers on first/last goal-scorer markets, as well as correct score bets were to be refunded.
The Betway player complained that his €100 in prop bets on eligible markets should have been refunded, in accordance with promo terms. Betway balked on honouring the promotion, and only offered to credit the player with a 100% cash bonus carrying a 15X rollover.
The player did not accept the offer and filed a sportsbook complaint with SBR. SBR advised the player to launch his complaint with the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) of Malta. The LGA issues Betway's sportsbook licence, though SBR notes that numerous scam sportsbooks have been allowed to operate with such certification.
Recent Betway news
On May 19th, SBR reported that a Betway player had £464.50 in sportsbook winnings confiscated
. The player wagered in excess of 30% of his bonus amount — a mortal sin at Betway. Betway is citing the below rule to justify cheating players out of their winnings:Betway rule: "Before any withdrawals are processed, your play will be reviewed for
any irregular playing patterns. In the interests of fair gaming, equal,
zero or low margin bets or hedge betting, shall all be considered
irregular gaming for bonus play-through requirement purposes. Other
examples of irregular game play include but are not limited to, placing
single bets equal to or in excess of 30% or more of the value of the
bonus credited to their account until such time as the wagering
requirements for that bonus have been met. Should the Casino deem that
irregular game play has occurred, the Casino reserves the right to
withhold any withdrawals and/or confiscate all winnings.
On May 18th, SBR reported on another Betway confiscation
using the bizarre rule. This player had $285 in winnings confiscated.
SBR has confirmed that Betway confiscated £6,514.50 from eight players. Betway is unwilling to revisit these claims with SBR.
