Yahoo Politics forecasts that Mitt Romney has a 65.6% likelihood of victory in the 2012 Republican primary. Fellow candidates Newt Gingrich's chances are declining, while candidates Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman have failed to gain steam. Mitt Romney's chances are attributed to his popularity in Iowa; a key state in determining who will ultimately receive the Republican nomination for President. Yahoo's figures are helped by prediction market data supplied by Betfair (SBR rating A-). Curacao based bookmaker Pinnacle Sports (SBR rating A+) has Mitt Romney as better than a 2 to 1 favorite (-221) to receive the nomination, while Canadian bookmaker Bovada.lv (SBR rating A) has Romney at -200.
To win the Republican nomination
- Pinnacle Sports: Romney -221
- Bovada.lv: Romney -200 | Gingrich +450 | Paul +700 | Huntsman +1400
- SBR Points Sportsbook: Romney -250 | Gingrich +500 | Paul +800 | Huntsman +1350
Yahoo Politics:
Gingrich's decline in Iowa is persistent and sharp, his possible routes
to the Republican nomination increasingly limited. He has trailed Paul
or Romney in each of the last 4 polls of Iowa voters (Rasmussen, ISU, PPP, Insider Advantage);
in the last 2 polls, he trails both of them by a sizable margin.
Contrast that with how things looked on December 12: prediction markets
had Gingrich's likelihood of winning Iowa near 60 percent.
Gamebookers (SBR rating B-) is again subject of a tennis grading complaint due to its non-standard policy of grading all tennis Exact Score wagers as losses upon a player's retirement. A bettor placed a wager of £63 on an exact set score of 2-0 on the Zvonareva vs Jankovic Wimbledon WTA singles match. After losing the first set, Jankovic retired. Gamebookers graded the player's wager as a loss, however none of the full game exact scores are winners. The industry standard for a multi-way wager is that if there is a losing side, someone wins or pushes.
Other sportsbooks, such as Pinnacle Sports (SBR rating A+) have clearer rules for this scenario: "If a tennis match is not completed because of a player retirement or disqualification, all Set wagers will be considered void. Such wagers will be cancelled and the monies refunded."
SBR is following up with Gamebookers regarding their decision.

Following 11 years of offering bonus incentives to players, Pinnacle Sports has made the decision to discontinue its new player bonus as of November 1st. Pinnacle Sports (SBR rating A+) released the following message to its player base:
As a part of our continued effort to differentiate ourselves from our
competitors, we will discontinue the new player deposit bonus effective
23:59 PST on Sunday 1st November 2009. Any new player funding their
account after this date will no longer be entitled to receive a signup
bonus.
The long term savings that our odds provide far outweigh the short term
allure of any new player incentive. We believe this is the continued
reason for our industry leading player conversion and retention rates
that you now enjoy as a valued affiliate.
Instead of competing in a bonus race, Pinnacle
Sports aims to effectively distinguish itself in the marketplace by
further emphasizing our unique price advantage, with a firm focus on
delivering these outstanding margins in more sports and more markets
than ever before.
Gamebookers (SBR rating B-), a member of the Partybets family, unfairly grades tennis wager as a loser, taking 63 Pounds ($109) from a player. The player bet on an exact set-score market, wagering Vassallo Arguello to beat Bellucci by 3-0. Bellucci retired midway through the 3rd set with the score at 1 set each. The book's rule states
In the event of a participant withdrawing after the start of a tennis match, the respective bets will be deemed void if at the time of suspension they are still not decided as winning or losing (e.g. First Set and First Set Exacta will be settled if the first set has ended).
The rule is ambiguous on exact set-scoring with a retirement. Other books have clearer rules on this scenario. From Pinnacle Sports (SBR rating A+): "If a tennis match is not completed because of a player retirement or disqualification, all Set wagers will be considered void. Such wagers will be cancelled and the monies refunded." Under Gamebookers' interpretation, the exact-set betting will have many losing bets, but no winning bets with a retirement. The industry standard is that for any multi-way market, such as exact set-scoring, there must be at least one winning bet.

Fernando, who was only in his mid 50s, was best known by players for his years as Lines Director at Hollywood Sportsbook. Fernando was a talented line manager who first gained notoriety for his exceptional ability to set NHL opening odds. He worked with Hollywood for years until the sportsbook was sold to the Sportsbook.com Group in May of 2006. At its peak Hollywood was an A+ sportsbook that, under Fernando, was one of the few sportsbooks to join Pinnacle Sports (SBR rating A+) offering reduced juice.
