Good to be back after doing a futures column yesterday because every game Sunday was an early start. We have about six weeks to go in the regular season before we hit the postseason selections so let's crush the rest of the season so we can claim another winning season. No doubt this year has been a fantastic ride, other than one bad stretch, we've been incredibly consistent.

San Jose Sharks vs Winnipeg Jets

Tonight, we're off to the MTS Centre as the Sharks swim into Manitoba to take on the Jets. Right now the best number we can find is at -108 at SBR's approved sportsbook, with the high mark being -120.

From a trend perspective, the Jets are 6-2 in their last 8 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game, meaning, when they find their offensive groove it usually stays with them a few games.

This line jumped out at me when I pulled up the SBR Odds page. San Jose opened -110 but was quickly bet the other way as the 'wise guys' have pounded the Jets despite 81% of all tickets written coming in on the Sharks. Money, not bet percentage, moves lines.

You can say that the Jets 27th ranked offense has come to life as of late.

In Winnipeg's first three games of their six-game homestand, they've tallied 14 goals which have sparked Paul Maurice's team to get back in the playoff race. Many in Manitoba are pointing to the Jets next three games as a barometer to see if the Jets are for real or just not ready to be part of the post-season.

After the Sharks, the Pittsburgh Penguins come to town on Wednesday followed by the Flames on Saturday, so it's safe to say that you'll get the best effort out of the Jets tonight with the focus being on a sweep of three teams they strive to be.

At 5-1-2 in their last eight games, the Jets are clearly playing their best hockey of the season. Why have they been better, simple, their gap awareness has improved. They're much better in not allowing large passing lanes their defensive zone up through the neutral ice. When opposing teams are in possession of the puck ice the first area you want to focus on defensively is your gaps which allow large passing lanes helping teams to flow better offensively. Stop that and you'll be a better hockey team and they have.

Let's get to the window and get some of the Red-hot Jets.
